lucknow/New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a charge sheet in a lucknow court against the BJP's Uttar Pradesh legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case.
"After investigation, a charge sheet has been filed in a lucknow court against Sengar and (his aide) Shashi Singh under Sections 120B, 363, 367, 376(1), 506 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and Sections 3 and 4 of Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act," CBI Spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said in New Delhi.
A CBI official said that the teenager was first raped by the Bharatiya Janata Party MlA on June 4, 2017 evening, whereas she was gang-raped by another group of accused between June 11 to 20.
Sengar, who represents Bangermau Assembly constituency, is in jail for allegedly raping the teenager at his home when she went to meet him for a job. Shashi Singh allegedly lured the girl to the MlA.
In April, the victim tried to commit suicide outside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house, alleging that the police did not act though she had approached them several months earlier.
The CBI arrested Sengar on April 13.
The CBI registered three cases on April 13 regarding the rape as well as the victim's father's death in police custody following a request to the Centre from the Uttar Pradesh government.
In the first FIR, the CBI named Sengar and Shashi Singh. The second FIR is against four of Sengar's accomplices -- Vineet, Baua, Shailu and Sonu -- on charges of rioting, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
The third is a cross-FIR filed by Sengar's brother Atul Singh, who claimed that he was attacked by the victim's father. Atul Singh is currently in judicial custody.
On Saturday, the CBI filed the charge sheet against five men, including Sengar's brother Jai Deep Singh alias Atul Singh Sengar, Vineet Mishra alias Vinay Mishra, Birendra Singh alias Bauwa, Ram Sharan Singh alias Sonu and Shashi Pratap Singh under Sections 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 147 (rioting) and 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) of the IPC in a case related to the death of the girl's father in police custody.
