The Indian Army has decided to replace the problematic INSAS rifles with an indigenous assault rifle, the ‘Excalibur’, designed by the DRDO,  according to India Today.

The decision would not only boost local manufacturing, it would also save the country a large amount of foreign exchange. The Excalibur assault rifle’s performance in trials has the Army enthusiastic about its potential.

The rifle is an improved version of the INSAS rifle and has full-automatic capability. The Army’s 2011 tender was for a Multi Caliber Assault Rifle but officials, now, admit that the specifications were not well drafted.
