I got 50 percent in my 12th (PCM) which I know is not great. I am very confused about what I should do and what will be the right career for me. Please help me decide.

Dear student,

Don’t worry about your marks. The Class XII exam results are not the end of the world. Since you've passed out of school, now is the time to take the right decisions. While there are plenty of options, what you choose to do should depend on where your interest lies. Despite your PCM background, you can choose to take up Business and Management, Law and Humanities, Commerce, Accounts and Banking, Arts and Languages, Fashion Designing, Hospitality and Tourism, Education and Teaching, and there are plenty of diploma, degree as well as certificate courses. Visit the following link to read about the options in detail – Courses to Pursue after 12th Science apart from BTech & Medical

I have completed my Class XII with 75 percent, JEE Mains score 140, Physics 70, Chem 65, Math 5. I’ve also appeared for NEET and am expecting a score of 400-410. I’d been aspiring to study medicine for the last two years but human behaviour interests me more than anything else. Is a BA too impractical for a science student? Also, my dad worries about security since Psychology isn’t exactly the most well-known career path. What do you suggest?

Dear Navam,

Please specify the location where you would want to take admission in B Com for us to be able to give you a more accurate suggestion. Also, since you are already preparing for CA/ CPT, we suggest that you continue doing that while you pursue B Com. It will give you more options at the end of the three years. Some of the top B Com colleges in India include:

  • SRCC, University of Delhi
  • Christ University, Bangalore
  • Loyola College, Chennai
  • Hansraj College, University of Delhi
  • Hindu College, University of Delhi
  • NMIMS Anil Sundar Modi School of Commerce, Mumbai
  • St. Joseph College of Commerce, Bangalore
  • Madras Christian College, Chennai

Every college comes out with multiple cut-off lists, if the seats are not filled. So, if you don’t get it in the first go, be patient, there are huge changes of getting through.

However, juggling Chartered Accountancy and B Com can get a tad bit tedious for you as they are pretty rigorous, so remain focused. All the best.
