CBSE May Announce Classes 10 & 12 Exam Dates After Lockdown Ends

According to sources, CBSE will release fresh dates after the lockdown is lifted.

The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) will announce fresh dates for the remaining Class 10 and 12 board examinations after consulting the Human Resource Development Ministry, sources familiar with the matter told The Quint.

It has also been learnt that the board is prepared to start the evaluation process four days after the nationwide lockdown is eventually lifted.

According to sources, these details were discussed in an online meeting with over 100 school principals from across India, which was presided over by CBSE exam controller Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj on Wednesday, 22 April.

In the meeting, Bharadwaj had said that the Ministry of Human Resource Development is being contacted about scheduling the examinations, and the new CBSE Date Sheet 2020 for the rest of the examinations will be announced as soon as it is approved from there.

The number of examiners will also be increased to complete the evaluation process as soon as possible so that the CBSE Result 2020 for Classes 10 and 12 can be declared on time.

In order to wrap up the process quickly, exams could also be conducted on Sundays, sources said.

Highlights of the Meeting

  • CBSE will start the evaluation process four days after the lockdown ends.
  • New CBSE Date Sheet 2020 for remaining papers will be announced soon after the approval of the HRD Ministry.
  • Exams might be conducted even on Sunday.
  • Maximum 10 students can be admitted to a classroom.
  • 75% attendance is compulsory in online classes.
  • CBSE schools can trim the syllabus from Classes 1 to 8.

List of Pending Exams for Class 10

On 1 April, the CBSE had said that it will conduct examinations for only main subjects that will be required for promotion and may be crucial for admissions in higher educational institutions. The board had said that it would not conduct any remaining exam for Class 10 across India, as examinations for important subjects listed by the board had already been conducted.

However, the CBSE clarified that Class 10 board examinations in six key subjects will be held in North East Delhi, where mass-scale violence had led to exams being postponed. These are the six subjects:

  • Hindi Course A
  • Hindi Course B
  • English Comm
  • English Language and Literature
  • Science
  • Social Science

What About Class 12 Board Exams?

For the Class 12 Board examinations across India, the CBSE has confirmed that it will only conduct examinations in 12 subjects.

These include, Business Studies, Geography, Hindi (Elective), Hindi, Home Science, Sociology, Computer Science (Old), Computer Science (New), Information Practice (Old), Information Practice (New), Information Technology and Bio-Technology.

Class 12 CBSE Exams in North East Delhi

In North East Delhi, the CBSE will conduct the following exams for Class 12.

  • English Elective - N
  • English Elective -C
  • English Core
  • Mathematics
  • Economics
  • Biology
  • Political Science
  • History
  • Physics
  • Accountancy
  • Chemistry

No Further CBSE Exam in Foreign Countries

CBSE had also said that Class 10 and 12 examinations pending in foreign countries will not be conducted due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to officials.

"There are several CBSE schools located in 25 countries. Each of these countries are also under lockdown or have decided to close down the schools for various and differential lengths of time. Under such circumstances, it is felt that the board will not be in a position to hold differential set of exams for each of these countries," CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi had said.

"Also, in the present situation, it will be difficult to bring the answer books to India for evaluation purposes. Therefore, the Board has decided to not hold any more exams for the students of Class 10 and 12 schools located outside India," he said.
