An elderly beggar named Nalini Sharma, a regular presence at the Ambe Mata Temple at Bajrangarh in Ajmer used to saved up money and deposit it in a bank. When she passed way in August 2018, the trustees whom she had entrusted her savings knew her dying wish, to put her savings towards the good of the nation.

“Despite the fact that her savings came from begging, she wanted it to be of some use to the country and hence, we considered it to be used for the kin of the CRPF jawans killed in the Pulwama attack.”
Sandeep Gaur to Times of India
The trustees came to the district administration office on Wednesday and expressed their desire to donate the money to the Chief Minister’s relief fund for the attack victims. The legal cell completed the formalities, following which the amount was accepted and a certificate was issued to them.

Why Nalini Sharma continued to beg despite having these savings is not known. But what is clear is that she was respected by both the visitors to the temple and those whom she entrusted with her savings.

“The devotees have always treated her with respect, and donated alms along with food and clothes,” the temple priest is reported to have said to The Times of India.

Four Army men including a Major were martyred in an encounter in J&K’s Pulwama on 18 February, days after 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a deadly suicide attack carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammad in the same district on 14 February. After the attacks, citizens from all walks of life have come forward to offer support to the kin of the Army men and CRPF jawans who lost their lives.
