It is admission season at Jadavpur University, but it has been facing major issues regarding transparency in admission procedure for a few days. The forms for admission were supposed to be filled up and submitted by 26 June 2018 but the authorities have postponed the procedure as per a sudden 'legal complexity,' despite the fact that thousands of aspirants had already applied for the admission and paid the entrance fees.
Whereas the entire admission procedure for almost all other Universities and Colleges have already come to a close, the Jadavpur authorities have been continuously altering not just the dates, but the very selection procedure. This leads the students to doubt the very transparency of the admission procedure that they are about to implement.
The Executive Council, being the highest decision making body of the University, had not been allowing any student representation to put forward their arguments for the admission entrances, due to which the students organised a three day long sit in demonstration, which led to an emergency EC meeting being called on 27 June in order to deliver a final statement on the matter.
The EC verdict was that the admission leverage will be given on the basis of 50% marks attained in the Board exams and 50% based on the admission test. T
he students feel that this is still a matter of concern and not entirely a transparent process. They wish to continue with their protests and refuse to budge until the authorities completely restore the original admission procedure that had been prevailing for so long.
