The short-staffed Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) that is currently operating at a onethird capacity after two of its three members retired earlier this month, may end up costing consumers a whopping Rs 250 crore.

The BMC’s stringent action on rooftop restaurants is proving to be an eyewash. Days after Mirror reported how two restaurants in Bandra – TAP and Bonobo - were illegally using their rooftops to serve diners, a similar story has emerged from Koyla in Colaba.

The popular joint, owned by Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azmi, has been serving food on its rooftop without the necessary permissions. The violation came to light after Mumbai Mirror personally dined at the rooftop restaurant, which operates from the 100-year-old building Kamal Mansion, on Wednesday night. When Mirror asked for hookah, we were told that hookah could not be served as there was a problem going on with the BMC.

5. Wharf House to Be the New Domestic Cruise Terminal

The city will soon witness one of the classiest makeovers ever. The century-old Wharf Office at Ferry Wharf in the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) complex has been converted into a swanky domestic cruise terminal for the upcoming Mumbai-Goa ferry service. Planned and executed in-house by the MbPT authorities, the makeover project took 18 months and cost less than Rs 2 crore.

“We were looking for a suitable terminal to add to the luxurious Arabian Sea experience associated with the revival of Mumbai-Goa ferry service. The Wharf Office was old and dilapidated but had a regal stone tower next door. We felt that the structures could together bring in the appeal of the 1970s when streamers chugged between Mumbai and Goa ports; or the 1990s when a Scandinavian vessel ferried holidayers back and forth,” said Mumbai Port Trust chairman Sanjay Bhatia.
