1. Sena’s Plan B: Go Solo If Talks With BJP Fail

With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aiming to play the ‘big brother’ in the alliance by keeping a larger share of the 288 seats, the Shiv Sena is looking for plan B – going solo – for the state polls in case the seat-sharing talks between the two fail.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray convened a meeting of party MPs, MLAs, divisional heads (vibhaag pramukhs) at his residence ‘Matoshree’ on Sunday to take stock of the preparation and vetted the list of probable candidates for all 288 seats.

2. 76 Lakh Youth Out Of Voters’ List; Total Touches 8.94 Crores In Maharashtra

More than 76 lakh youngsters in the age group of 18 to 30 are out of the voters’ list, according to the latest electoral roll published by the Election Commission on August 31.

The number of voters after the recent revision has reached 8.94 crore against the projected state population of 12.43 crore in 2019.

Of the estimated population of 43.07 lakh, 17.76 lakh youngsters in the 18-19 age group have registered themselves as voters, while 1.7 crore people in the 20-29 age group have got themselves registered, against the projected population of 2.21 crore.

3. FIR Against Ganesh Mandal After Four Suffer Electric Shock During Immersion In Mumbai

An FIR has been registered against Raje Shiv Chhatrapati Ganpati Mandal in Seawoods after four people suffered electric shock during immersion. Police said all four are out of danger and suffered minor injuries.

On Friday, a drenched bamboo pole, used to lower the Ganesh idol into water, accidentally touched a high-tension wire, injuring four people. Three others faced minor injuries as well, but not due to electric shock.

4. ‘Godman’ Held For Raping Woman On Pretext Of Removing ‘Evil Spirits’

A ‘godman’, who raped a 32-year-old woman from Kharghar by claiming that her private parts were possessed, was arrested at Haridwar railway station on September 13.

The complainant lived with her mother in Kharghar while her father worked in Delhi. Last year, she suffered some health issues, which led to behavioural changes. Owing to this, her mother suspected that she was possessed.

5. At 899.5 mm, Mumbai Records Third Highest Sept Rainfall

Mumbai has recorded the third highest September rainfall at 899.5 mm on Sunday, Met officials said. The all-time record for the month is 920 mm, recorded in 1954.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a ‘generally cloudy sky’ with possibility of light rain in city and suburbs on Monday. It has warned of ‘light to moderate’ rain for neighbouring Thane and ‘heavy rain at isolated places’ for Palghar and Raigad districts.
