Actress Tanushree Dutta on Wednesday, 10 October, visited Oshiwara Police Station to record her statement in connection with a complaint of sexual harassment filed by her against actor Nana Patekar. Dutta has accused Patekar of touching her inappropriately on the sets of a Bollywood film in 2008.

“Dutta reached the police station around 7.30 pm to record her statement in the matter. The process is on,” the official said without elaborating.

2. Bombay HC Quashes Preity Zinta’s Molestation FIR Lodged Against Ness Wadia

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday, 10 October, quashed an FIR lodged against industrialist Ness Wadia after actor Preity Zinta had accused him of outraging her modesty in 2014.

A division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Bharati H Dangre passed the order inside their chambers in the presence of Zinta, Wadia and their lawyers. Wadia’s lawyer Abad Ponda said the FIR had been quashed by the court.

3. Dabholkar Murder Case: Will Complete Probe by 18 Nov, Says CBI

The CBI on Wednesday, 10 October, told the Bombay High Court that it will complete its investigation into the murder case of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar by 18 November, following which a chargesheet will be filed against the accused.

The court was hearing a petition filed by the family members of Dabholkar and rationalist Govind Pansare, seeking a court-monitored probe in the two cases.

4. Convicted Math Teacher Rejoins School Where He Harassed Girls

A maths teacher convicted for sexually harassing students at an Andheri school, has returned to take classes there, barely two months after the court declared the guilty verdict under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The management of the aided school said it was waiting for the state education department’s instructions — whether the teacher, who is out on bail, should be sacked immediately or if the action should be taken only after a higher court confirms the verdict.

5. Woman Blames Sexual Blackmail for Suicide

Almost a month after a 26-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in Navi Mumbai's Taloja area, the husband of the victim has found a video in which she says she was being sexually assaulted and blackmailed by a man. The woman says in the video that she was ending her life as she was fed up of the constant sexual assaults and harassment she had to endure.

After the video emerged, the Taloja police have registered a case of abetment of suicide in the matter and are looking for the alleged sexual offender.

6. Auto-Rickshaw Driver Assaults Woman Traffic Cop, Drags Her for 50 Metres

A woman traffic constable was allegedly assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver near Kalyan railway station. The auto driver dragged the constable along with the vehicle for around 50 metres when she allegedly demanded to see his license, police said.

According to Kalyan police, the accused has been identified as Nagesh Awalgiri (27). “Constable Asha Gawande (24)Gawande asked for him to move (from the middle of the road), he started arguing with her, saying that he is just waiting for customers. Awalgiri started hitting her hand, placed on the rickshaw, asking her to move away. When she asked for his license, he immediately started the vehicle and knowing that Gawande was holding part of the vehicle, tried to speed away.”

While Gawande fell on the road and was dragged, the driver fled the spot, police said.

7. Victim ‘Slut-Shamed’, Abuser Let off Easy

In the ongoing #MeToo movement, a former student of St Xavier’s College has accused its women’s development cell (WDC) of handling her sexual harassment complaint against a fellow student “in a malicious way,” pointing at the reason why victims often do not approach internal committees.

In a Facebook post, Kripa Fernandes, who graduated from Xavier’s two years ago, wrote that she approached the cell in 2015 after suffering “physical, verbal and sexual abuse” at the hands of a fellow student, whom she was dating at the time.
