1. Sena Not the Hurdle in Govt Formation: Sanjay Raut

Amid the ongoing impasse over government formation, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan on Monday and discussed the state’s political situation.

“We discussed with him about the political situation in the state,” said Raut while talking to reporters. Terming it a courtesy visit, Raut said he gifted a book on Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray’s cartoons and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s two photographic books. Raut met the governor at 5 pm, and the meeting went on for about half an hour.

“We only told him that the government needs to be formed at the earliest and we (Sena) are not the hurdle in government formation. We explained the situation before him. We don’t know why there is a delay in government formation,” Raut added.

2. WhatsApp Breach: NCP Demands SIT Probe Into ‘Illegal Surveillance’

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Monday called for an SIT to be set up to probe the illegal surveillance of some individuals in the country through WhatsApp, using Israeli-made spyware.

“Israeli company NSO was roped in to snoop on some people in the country. It is worrisome. Union Minister (Communi-cations and Electronics and Information Technology) Ravi Shankar Prasad should throw some more light on the allegations of snooping,” said Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil at a press conference in Mumbai.

Patil claimed Facebook had admitted that some 40 people were subjected to snooping, of whom 14 are from Maharashtra.

3. 74-Yr-Old PMC Bank Depositor Dies of Cardiac Arrest

Andrew Lobo, 74, became the ninth depositor of Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank who died, following restrictions imposed on the fraud-hit bank by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Lobo died at his home in Thane on 31 October.

“Two months ago it was found that his lungs were failing and he was really tense as he could not access his money from the bank for treatment. He could not take the stress and succumbed to a cardiac arrest last week,” said Chris Mascerenhas, 23, Lobo’s relative.

Lobo had sold his business a few years ago and parked the proceeds in the crisis-hit bank, his relatives said.

4. Cyclone Maha to Bring More Rain in Mumbai, Parts of State Tomorrow

After last week’s surprise rainfall, Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra may have to brace for more thundershowers as Cyclone Maha moves towards Gujarat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of “heavy rain at isolated places” for November 6 for Palghar, Thane, Nandurbar, Dhule and Nashik, following the movement of tropical Cyclone Maha towards Gujarat at a maximum speed of 100-110 kmph. Thundershowers are expected in Mumbai on 6 and 7 November

Light to moderate rain at most places with isolated heavy spells are very likely over north Konkan (Palghar and Thane districts) and northernmost districts of Madhya Maharashtra (Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar districts) on November 6,” read the warnings issued by the weather department.

5. Goodwin Owners Planned to Shut Down Months Before Going Broke: Police

The owners of Goodwin Jewellers had allegedly planned to shut down their shops months before they went broke, police said. Based on statements of complainants and the staff, police are now trying to find out the exact time the owners decided to close their businesses.

According to Ram Shevale, a customer from Naupada, the shop in Thane had started keeping less jewellery and was had not been taking fresh orders since Dussehra.

“I have been their customer for years now. During Dussehra, I wanted to buy a customised necklace for my daughter but the shop claimed that they didn’t have enough workers,” he said. The stores in Dombivali and Thane also had to lay off a lot of staff in the last couple of months, police said.
