After heavy rain on Saturday, followed by moderate rainfall in Mumbai on Sunday, the Met department has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in the city and suburbs for Monday.

For Thane, Raigad and Palghar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Monday, with forecast of “heavy to very heavy rain” at isolated places on Monday.

Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday, the IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded 21.3 mm rainfall, which falls in the moderate category. The Colaba observatory recorded 5.6 mm rain in the same duration.

2. BMC To Give Rs 1 Lakh Compensation To Kin Of Staff Who Died During Floods

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided on Sunday to award a compensation of ₹1 lakh each to the families of its two employees who died on duty in two separate incidents in Goregaon during the floods on September 4. Along with this, the BMC has also announced to give job to one member of each family.

While Vijayendra Sardar Bagdi, 36, fell and drowned in a nullah, Jagdish Parmar, 54, suffered a heart attack. Both were rushed to hospitals, where they were declared dead on arrival.

3. Waiting For Owaisi To Respond, Says Prakash Ambedkar

Two days after the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Asaduddin Owaisi declared it was snapping off its ties with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) led by Prakash Ambedkar, the latter said he is waiting for Owaisi to respond as their alliance was with him and not with the local leaders.

On Friday, AIMIM Member of Parliament (MP) Imtiyaz Jaleel had declared that the party has decided to break its alliance with VBA.

4. NGO Seeks Action From IUCN: Aarey Forest Home To Nine Leopards

Taking ahead the protest against the felling and transplantation of 2,646 trees in Aarey for the Metro 3 car shed project, a Mumbai-based NGO has written to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and environment ministry among others, submitting proof of the presence of leopards in Aarey and sought action for saving the big cat’s habitat. The IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.

In a letter to the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), IUCN, National Board of Wildlife and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA, which is funding the Metro 3 project), the NGO has highlighted that Aarey in Goregaon (East), 3 km away from Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), is also home to nine leopards.

5. Tadvi Case: FSL Submits DNA Report To Police

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) on Sunday submitted a DNA analysis report in connection with the alleged suicide of doctor Payal Tadvi to the Mumbai Police, said a senior official. He said it does not seem to be a case of homicide.

The cyber unit will also submit its final report within one week, the official said.

Tadvi (26), a second-year postgraduate medical student attached to the BYL Nair Hospital, committed suicide in a hostel room on May 22 after alleged casteist slurs by her senior colleagues.
