1. ‘Gas Leak’ Source Still Elusive
A day after reports of an unusual odour from across the suburbs prompted rumours of a gas leak, there was still no clarity on the source of the smell on Friday. Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi admitted that they were none the wise about the how and where the smell originated. A senior BMC official said Ashvini Joshi, Additional Commissioner (Disaster Management) has called for a meeting on Saturday of all stakeholders - Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Rashtriya Chemical Fertiliser RCF, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) - in the hope of getting more information.

2. Parts of SoBo to Face 24-Hour Water Cut
With the BMC set to undertake an inspection of the Bhandarwada Hill Reservoir (BHR) at Mazgaon, the south parts of the city will have to endure a complete water cut for 24 hours on Wednesday and Thursday (10 am to 10 am). Residents of A, B and E wards will be affected due to the repair work.
The BMC has appointed consultants for the reconstruction of Bhandarwada Hill Reservoir. They will inspect the reservoir on September 25 and 26.

3. Versova Sea Link: Nod to Cut Mangroves in Mumbai Under High Court Lens
The Bombay High Court (HC) on Friday directed the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) to explain the two permissions granted to the Bandra-Versova sea link. A division bench of chief justice Pradeep Nandrajog and justice Bharati Dangre also restrained the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) from cutting any mangroves, except from the 200 square meters area required to construct 10 pillars for this section of the sea link.
The HC was hearing a plea filed by activist Zoru Bhathena, opposing the MSRDC’s plea seeking the court’s permission to cut 1,585 mangroves for the construction of the Bandra-Versova sea link.

4. Governor's Home, Jal Bhushan, to Be Pulled Down
Jal Bhushan, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari's official residence-cum-office, will soon be pulled down. The bungalow, the origins of which go back 200 years, was declared unsafe towards the end of previous governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao's term. The state PWD has assigned the work to Chetan Rikar, of Structwel Designers and Consultants, who confirmed the development.

5. 38-Year-Old Woman Duped of Rs 82 Lakh
A 38-year-old interior decorator from south Mumbai was allegedly duped of Rs 82 lakh after befriending an alleged US-based man on a matrimonial site. The police said the woman, who has filed for a divorce, received a request from one Vikram Mohan on a Marathi matrimonial website on February 24, 2018. “I got married in 2009 and later as it didn’t work out with my husband, we have filed for the divorce. At present, I stay with my eight-year-old son,” the complainant said in her statement to police.
