1. Metro Leaves ‘Never Before Flooded’ SoBo Road Waterlogged

The BMC has sent a warning letter to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) for allegedly pumping water mixed with mud and cement into Churchgate-Mantralaya belt’s storm water drains last week, which left a prominent arterial road flooded for the first time.

Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner of A ward, said General Jagannath Bhosale Road, which goes past Sarang — the residential quarters of HC judges — was flooded “for the very first time”. “This stretch has never been waterlogged. We suspect that storm water drains were filled with slurry from the nearby Metro-III construction sitenear Vidhan Bhavan. Hence, we sent a letter to MMRC on June 29, warning them against releasing muddy water into storm water drains.”

City kitchens might be hit as the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) has threatened to block all milk supply to Mumbai from July 16 in an attempt to ‘jog the state’s memory’ of the promises of subsidies it had made to farmers in the dairy sector six months ago.

MP Raju Shetti, the farmers’ outfit leader, said they will be blocking three major roads leading to the city – the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, the Mumbai-Pune Highway, and the Mumbai-Surat Highway – and stalling milk tankers.
