Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ government for its plan to hand over the 37-acre Mahim Nature Park to the Slum Rehabilitation Authority under the proposed Dharavi redevelopment plan.

Thackeray, who visited the park on Wednesday morning, said this is the only government that considers the “destruction of environment as development,” and wondered if the CM was even aware of the plan.

4. Ola-Uber strike: Union activists in Mumbai break eggs inside cabs to dissuade commuters, drivers

Mumbaiites hoping to flag Ola and Uber cabs on Wednesday evening are likely to find very few vehicles on the roads, as union activists are allegedly breaking eggs inside them to dissuade drivers and commuters.

Since noon, after a few such incidents were reported, most drivers have stayed off the streets. “Instead of damaging the vehicles, union workers are breaking eggs inside. They are doing this as the police have been taking action against them for the past two days,” said a driver, who did not wish to be named.

5. SRA Officials Will Go to Jail If They Don’t Scrap MNP Proposal, Says Forest Minister

Mumbai moved a step closer to saving the 41-acre Mahim Nature Park (MNP) from falling into builders’ hands with Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Wednesday saying that the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and MMRDA officials will go to jail if they did not withdraw a notification seeking MNP’s inclusion into Dharavi’s redevelopment plan.

As twitter storm over SRA’s plan to grab one of Mumbai’s last surviving green spaces grew in strength and Mungantiwar’s department was tagged in several of these posts, the minister clarified that the park was declared a protected forest in March 1991. “Anybody who intends to misuse the protected forest land will have to go to jail. I want to assure every Mumbaikar that Mahim Nature Park will not be touched. Our department will take a strong stand in this case,” Mungantiwar said.

Less than a week after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a probe into the BMC’s garbage transport scam, the civic body’s Solid Waste Management (SWM) department picked a tainted contractor Ms MK Enterprises (JV) for a Rs 120-crore contract. The Shiv Sena-led civic standing committee cleared the proposal on Wednesday amid opposition from the Congress.

In August last year, the BMC filed complaints against Ms MK Enterprises in Vikhroli and Kurla police stations. The contractor had mixed construction debris with garbage on eight occasions, according to the BMC’s complaint. During a surprise inspection, the BMC had found 3-6 bags of debris in dumper trucks that ferry garbage.

7. NCP Worker Arrested for Harassing Actress at Gym

The Amboli police on Wednesday arrested a local NCP worker for allegedly molesting a 37-year-old actress at a gym in Andheri West. While the actor recorded the complaint against the accused, Vishwanath Shetty, on February 13, he had gone into hiding and surfaced only yesterday.
