1. 31 Families Evacuated After Building in Thane Tilts
Thirty-one families living in a five-storey building in Ulhasnagar were evacuated, after a portion of the building tilted and developed cracks on Monday. The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) said the 25-year-old building was not on the list of dangerous buildings.
Residents of Mahak apartments on Link Road in Ulhasnagar camp 3 called the fire brigade after they found that all doors were jammed. UMC chief fire officer Bharkar Mirpagar said, “Residents complained that cracks have developed on the first, second and third floor of the building. People also complained about doors being jammed. We managed to open the doors and rescue the families.”

2. 600 Kolis Clear 500 Tonnes of Trash From Mumbai Beach
More than 600 volunteers from the Koli community in Colaba cleared out 500 tonnes of trash from the beach near Cuffe Parade on Monday.
The volunteers, including children and women, started the clean-up at 2:30pm. While volunteers cleaned out most of the garbage manually, they borrowed a JCB from the civic body to weed out some plastic and debris buried deep in the sand, and around the area closest to the sea.

3. Shiv Sena Slams Oppn for ‘Playing Politics’ Over Those Hit by Floods
Slamming opposition parties for politicising the floods in Western Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena on Monday accused NCP chief Sharad Pawar and his party of turning flood-affected people against the government.
In an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana, the Sena said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was on BJP’s Mahajanadesh Yatra when the flood situation became grave. There was criticism that chief minister was accompanied by a few ministers and members of the state administration. But he returned and has been making all attempts to control the flood situation, said the editorial.

4. BMC Sends Teams to Check Disease Outbreak in Sangli, Kolhapur
After the state government called on Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi to supervise the rescue and help operations in flood-ravaged Sangli and Kolhapur, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sent teams from its Solid Waste Management (SWM), Insecticide and Fire Brigade departments to prevent outbreak of diseases as floodwater has started to recede in parts of the districts.
According to BMC officials, Mumbai Fire Brigade department has sent four quick response vehicles, a team of 16 staff, led by one Assistant Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO), to the affected areas.

5. Mumbai Civic Body Got 1,578 Pothole Complaints in 30 Days
A total of 1,578 pothole complaints were lodged with the civic body in 30 days. With more than a month to go till the monsoon ends, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already received 2,648 complaints from 10 June to 7 August, according to civic body data. Last year, the BMC had received 2,200 pothole complaints by 27 August.
This year, Andheri and Vile Parle saw the most number of pothole complaints — 370.
The BMC claims to have attended to 2,234 — 84.37% — of the total pothole complaints. There were 1,070 complaints from 10 June to 8 July.
