1. Police Say Prernaa's 'Con Job' Paid for Home, Designer Shoes

Film producer Prerna Arora, who has been arrested for allegedly cheating film financier Vashu Bhagnani and his production house Pooja Entertainment and Films Ltd of Rs 31.6 crore, allegedly defrauded a director whom she owed Rs 1.5 crore by trying to pass off a previous payment made to actor Amitabh Bachchan as his settlement. Arora allegedly also transferred some of the funds to her employees’ bank accounts.

2. Phase 2 Inaugurated, Entire 19.48-Km Monorail Now Ready for Commuters

Nearly a decade after then Chief Minister Ashok Chavan laid its foundation stone, the 19.48-km-long Mumbai Monorail, connecting Chembur to Jacob Circle, was finally inaugurated on Sunday.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday inaugurated the second phase of the Monorail, which covers a distance of 11.24 km from Wadala to Sant Gadge Chowk near Jacob Circle. The 8.24-km-long first phase, from Wadala to Chembur, was, inaugurated in February 2014 but received poor response due to its alignment and lack of connectivity with other public transport systems. It also witnessed a spate of accidents, including a fire, which led to services being shut for 10 months. So far, the first phase has been making losses.

3. Maharahstra Govt Signs Mou With China Paper Firm

Maharashtra government has signed an MoU with Nine Dragon Papers, a Chinese paper manufacturing company, for setting up a unit in the state and is expecting an investment of $1 billion.

The MoU was signed by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s CEO Dr P Anbalgan and Zhang Cheng Fei, CEO, Nine Dragon. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Satish Gavai, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Bhushan Gagrani were also present at the event.

4. Suburban Terminus Inaugurated at Parel, Likely to Benefit 2 Lakh Commuters of Central Railway

Fulfilling a long-standing demand, the Central Railway (CR) on Sunday inaugurated a new suburban terminus at Parel for local trains to decongest and reduce passenger traffic at Parel station.

“The demand for a suburban railway station at Parel had been pending for many years and a new terminus is being inaugurated after nearly 20 years,” Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said.

5. Tribal Women in Thane Village to Sell Chickens Reared in Own Farms

TRIBAL WOMEN from Aghai village in Shahapur taluka of Thane will be ready to sell the first batch of chickens from their individual poultry farms on April 15. These women are members of the Ekta Bachat Gat, a self-help group (SHG) formed in 2016 with the help of students from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

Karan Sarin, a Masters student in social work (livelihoods and social entrepreneurship), is working upon the initiative under the guidance of Prof Dr Sunil Santha.

6. 34,365 Take Part in BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Bike Rallies

The Mumbai unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday held Vijay Sankalp bike rallies in all 36 Assembly constituencies of the city. This was part of a nation-wide campaign organised by the BJP.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while flagging off the rally in Vakola, said today’s India is capable of answering in the same language. “Earlier, we used to approach the United Nations when we were attacked. But the India of Narendra Modi has paid Pakistan and terrorists back in their own coin. No one can now even dare to take a crooked look at our country,” Mr. Fadnavis said.

7. Maharashtra’s Palghar District to Get Another Seismometer

Three days after two earthquakes rocked Mahrashtra in quick succession, the National Centre of Seismology (NCS) and India Meteorological Department (IMD) said another seismometer would be installed in Palghar district, taking the total number of such monitors to four.

According to officials from IMD, the fourth instrument to be located east of the last earthquake’s epicentre will enable the team in acquiring a more accurate data. The existing three seismometers were not targeting the area situated east of where the earthquakes have been occurring, officials said.

8. Goyal Announces More Escalators, Rail Corridor

Union Minister for Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal on Sunday announced a slew of projects, including 180 new escalators at stations across the suburban network, a new suburban station at Chikhloli between Ambernath and Badlapur, and a new railway corridor between Kalyan and Murbad.

The 28-km corridor will connect Murbad via Ulhasnagar and Vitthalwadi and will have four stations. The ₹726-crore project is expected to be completed by 2023. Mr. Goyal said the station at Chikhloli will reduce the distance between Ambernath and Badlapur stations, and give a boost to affordable housing in the region.
