Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti will take oath as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister any time after the end of the seven-day official mourning for her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday, a party leader said. This announcement puts an end to the suspense over whether Mehbooba has agreed to be sworn in as the next chief minister to head the PDP-BJP coalition government.

The party also said that neither it nor its alliance partner – Bharatiya Janata Party had set any preconditions for the formation of the new government in the state.

The terms of alliance already worked out will continue to govern the relationship between the two parties in the next government.

Mehboob Beg, Spokesperson, Peoples Democratic Party

Beg said the PDP president will respect the people’s mandate and carry forward the agenda of development set by the late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

The state announced a seven-day official mourning when Sayeed passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on January 7.
