Thousands Protest in Kargil Against Atrocities on Shias in Pak

A massive protest erupted in Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir against the Pakistani government, condemning atrocities against Shias on Monday.

The protest was against the arrest of Shia cleric Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi who belongs to Gilgit-Baltistan. The Pakistani government also put his name in the Fourth Schedule (Anti-Terror Act) and revoked his citizenship, reported The Tribune.

The protest saw placards with strong slogans calling for an end to Shia-targeted killings in Pakistan. The protesters marched from Jamia Masjid, Kargil to Lal Chowk.

The Tribune quoted Asgar Karbalai, MLA, Kargil as saying:

Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi is an academic person and not a political person and the Pakistan Government is trying to limit his social activities.

Thousands of people took to the streets showing solidarity with the cleric.
