Maoist Leader Killed After Clash With Kerala Police in Vythiri

No officer was injured in the fire fight.

A Maoist leader identified as CP Jaleel was killed on Thursday, 7 March, after a clash with the Kerala police in Vythiri area, ANI reported.

Without disclosing names, news agency PTI stated that a gunfight started at the same location on the night of 6 March and went on till early Thursday morning.

Citing sources, the report added that a group of Maoists reached a private resort and demanded food and money.

The Quint could not verify whether the gunfight reported by the media are of the same incident.

Meanwhile, the resort staff informed the police about the presence of “extremist group” and a specialised Thunderbolt squad of the Kerala Police rushed in. Kerala Thunderbolt is an elite command force of the Kerala Police under the India Reserve Battalion.

“No officer was injured in the fire fight," a police official told PTI.

Police Cordons Off Forested Area Near Vythiri

Police have cordoned off the forested locality near Vythiri in Wayanad district and combing operation is underway to capture the rest of the members of the armed group.

A high-level meeting of police and district officials has also been convened by the Inspector General of Police, Kannur Range.
