1. Mumbai Records Cleanest Diwali Air in Five Years

The city on Sunday recorded its cleanest Diwali air in five years, since real-time air quality monitoring began in Mumbai. However, researchers have predicted a marginal spike in pollution levels on Monday.

The air quality index (AQI) on Sunday for PM2.5 (fine particulate matter that can enter deep into the lungs and cause health ailments) was 30 (good) during the day, which increased to 87 (satisfactory) by evening. An AQI of 118 (moderate) has been predicted for Monday, 70 (satisfactory) for Tuesday, and 76 (satisfactory) for Wednesday, according to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

2. NCP Poster Boy Dhananjay Munde’s Pune Flat Attached For Loan Default

An apartment belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) poster-boy Dhananjay Munde has been attached by a Pune-based bank for defaulting on a loan of Rs 1.43 crore.

Munde, who defeated his cousin Pankaja Munde, the daughter of former deputy chief minister late Gopinath Munde, in the just-concluded assembly election, called the bank’s action a political conspiracy. He said he had offered to settle the loan after the elections, but the bank went ahead with the attachment.

3. To Ease Crush Hour, Ghatkopar to Get Elevated Deck, Two FOBs

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has proposed an elevated deck and two new foot overbridges (FOB) to decongest the Central Railway’s Ghatkopar station, which witnesses stampede-like situation during peak hours.

Ghatkopar is one of the most crowded stations on the city’s suburban network, especially since Metro-1 was commissioned in August 2014. Recently, the authorities took some short-term measures to give passengers easy access to the station.

4. Coast Guard Gets Forest Land in Murud to Set up Base

Nearly 11 years after the 26/11 terror attacks, the state government has granted a permanent plot to the Coast Guard to set up a base in Murud by diverting nearly 11 hectares of forest land.

The notification for diverting 10.90 hectare of forest land at Rajpuri village in Murud of Raigad district was issued on October 25, 2019, by Virendra Tiwari, joint secretary of the forest department.

5. Mumbai, Adjoining Areas to Witness Light to Moderate Rain Today

Mumbai and its neighbouring areas are likely to feel the after effects of cyclone Kyarr with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light to moderate rain on Sunday.

The city witnessed light to moderate rainfall in certain parts on Saturday as well, as Kyarr intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and lay centred over east-central Arabian Sea, about 270 km to the west-southwest of Ratnagiri and 360 km south-southwest of Mumbai.
