1. Pak Chopper Intrudes Into Indian Airspace, Reports Say Pok PM Was Aboard

A Pakistani helicopter crossed 700 metres into Indian airspace along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector on Sunday afternoon. According to reports from Pakistan, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan was travelling in this chopper.

Reuters quoted Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s PM Raja Farooq Haider Khan as saying that his civilian helicopter was fired upon by India. “The Indian Army fired to show that Pakistan had violated their airspace,” Khan’s office said in a statement, but added “when the firing took place, we were within our own airspace”.

The wife of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari, who died early Saturday morning after being shot by a police constable in Lucknow, has filed a second FIR in the case.

The new FIR claims that police officials who reached the spot did not allow Tiwari’s associate Sana Khan, who was with him at the time of the shooting, from receiving or making calls. It also accuses policemen of forcing Khan to sign on a blank paper.

7. Monsoon Rainfall This Year 9 Percent Short of Normal: IMD

At the end of the four-month-long monsoon season this year, the rainfall recorded in the country as a whole has remained 9 percent short of the normal mark, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday, 30 September.

The northeast regions, particularly, failed to receive good rain throughout the season and that is one of the major reasons for the overall deficit. “The weather systems formed over Bay of Bengal largely moved towards central or north India instead of also moving towards the eastern parts, leaving most of the east and northeast without good rainfall. With the monsoon weakening after middle of August, it was nearly impossible for this high rainfall receiving belt to revive even to normalcy,” said an IMD official from Pune.

9. Death Toll in Indonesia Quake-Tsunami Doubles to 832, Final Number Could Be in Thousands

The death toll from a powerful earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia leapt to 832 on Sunday, 30 September, as stunned people on the stricken island of Sulawesi struggled to find food and water and looting spread.

The new toll announced by the national disaster agency was almost double the previous figure. Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla said the final number of dead could be in “thousands.”
