1. Pak Chopper Intrudes Into Indian Airspace, Reports Say Pok PM Was Aboard
A Pakistani helicopter crossed 700 metres into Indian airspace along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector on Sunday afternoon. According to reports from Pakistan, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan was travelling in this chopper.
Reuters quoted Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s PM Raja Farooq Haider Khan as saying that his civilian helicopter was fired upon by India. “The Indian Army fired to show that Pakistan had violated their airspace,” Khan’s office said in a statement, but added “when the firing took place, we were within our own airspace”.

A day after India dismissed Pakistan’s claims that it was trying to sabotage talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 30 September, said although the country staunchly believes in peace and is committed to taking it forward, it cannot be “at the cost of compromising our self-respect and the sovereignty of our nation”. Speaking at his monthly radio address Mann ki Baat, the PM also warned that the country’s soldiers would “give a befitting reply” to anyone attempting “to destroy the atmosphere of peace and progress”.

3. Lucknow Apple Executive Killing: Wife Claims Pressure, Minister Brijesh Pathak Agrees
The wife of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari, who died early Saturday morning after being shot by a police constable in Lucknow, has filed a second FIR in the case.
The new FIR claims that police officials who reached the spot did not allow Tiwari’s associate Sana Khan, who was with him at the time of the shooting, from receiving or making calls. It also accuses policemen of forcing Khan to sign on a blank paper.

A day after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj sharply criticised Islamabad over its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Nations Saad Warraich on Sunday, 30 September, trained guns at RSS and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to allege that there was no room for dissent in “illiberal India of today”. Exercising the Right of Reply, Warraich accused the RSS, BJP’s ideological mentor, of supporting the spread of fascism through its centres.

5. Nothing of Elections Will Be Allowed on Google, Facebook, Twitter 48 Hours Before Polls: CEC
Internet major Google and social media giants Twitter and Facebook have assured the Election Commission that they will not allow their platforms to be used for anything which effects the purity of polls during campaign period, Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat has said.
He said it was tested during the Karnataka elections. “Small pilot was there. That was the beginning. Now we will have a bigger pilot before Lok Sabha elections in these four states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram,” the CEC told PTI.

7. Monsoon Rainfall This Year 9 Percent Short of Normal: IMD
At the end of the four-month-long monsoon season this year, the rainfall recorded in the country as a whole has remained 9 percent short of the normal mark, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday, 30 September.
The northeast regions, particularly, failed to receive good rain throughout the season and that is one of the major reasons for the overall deficit. “The weather systems formed over Bay of Bengal largely moved towards central or north India instead of also moving towards the eastern parts, leaving most of the east and northeast without good rainfall. With the monsoon weakening after middle of August, it was nearly impossible for this high rainfall receiving belt to revive even to normalcy,” said an IMD official from Pune.

8. India Wants to Have Trade Deal With Us to Avoid Tariffs: Trump
President Donald Trump Saturday, 29 September, said that India wants to have a trade deal with the US because it does not want him to impose tariffs on their products.
Trump's remarks, for the second time in recent weeks, comes days after Assistant US Trade Representative Mark Linscott returned from India where he had detailed discussion with senior Indian officials on bilateral trade and a possible trade deal between the two countries.

9. Death Toll in Indonesia Quake-Tsunami Doubles to 832, Final Number Could Be in Thousands
The death toll from a powerful earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia leapt to 832 on Sunday, 30 September, as stunned people on the stricken island of Sulawesi struggled to find food and water and looting spread.
The new toll announced by the national disaster agency was almost double the previous figure. Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla said the final number of dead could be in “thousands.”
