5 Killed in Protests Against Sudan's President

Organizers behind anti-government demonstrations in Sudan say security forces have killed at least five protesters in the last twenty-four hours.

Saturday witnessed one of the largest turnouts in more than three months of protests calling on President Omar al-Bashir to resign.

Sarah Abdel-Jaleel, a spokeswoman for the Sudanese Professionals Association, said that four people were killed in the capital city of Khartoum when security forces tried to disperse crowds approaching the military's headquarters.

Abdel-Jaleel says another protester was killed in the neighbouring city of Omdurman.

Political Ad Spend on Facebook Crosses Rs 10 Crore

Campaigning on Facebook is picking up pace with political parties and their supporters spending well over Rs 10 crore on advertisements in February-March this year.

According to Facebook's Ad Library Report, there were 51,810 political ads with a total spending of more than Rs 10.32 crore between February and March 30 this year, with a major chunk coming in from BJP and its supporters.

Till the previous week (ending March 23), the number of such ads was 41,974, while the total spending was Rs 8.58 crore.

20 Passengers of Delhi-Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Taken Ill After Eating Rail Food

Around 20 passengers on board the Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani were on Sunday taken ill after eating meals served by railways, reports PTI quoting sources.

A railway spokesperson told PTI that doctors at Gomoh station attended to those taken ill and all of them are stable.

A doctor at Bokaro also attended to the passengers and as a precaution he is now travelling in the train and checking passengers.

Fire Breaks out in North Delhi Plastic Factory

A major fire broke out in a plastic factory in north Delhi's Narela Industrial Area on Saturday night, PTI reported, quoting the Delhi Fire Service.

The fire department said they received the call about a fire at about 10.35 PM. A total of 26 fire tenders worked to douse the fire that was brought under control by 4 am.

No injury or casualty has been reported.

Mumbai's Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Deven Bharti was transferred on today after the Election Commission (EC) asked the Maharashtra government to shift him, PTI reported, quoting an official.

Bharti became the city's joint commissioner of police (law and order) in April 2015 and was the longest serving officer on the post.

3 Killed as Truck Rams Into Bus in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh

Three persons were killed and 13 others injured today when a speeding container truck rammed into a bus in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, police said. The bus was on its way to Nimbahera from Chittorgarh when the accident occurred near Araniya Panth bridge.

Bus driver and container truck driver fled from the spot after the accident.

Pakistan Releases 100 Indian Fishermen as 'Goodwill Gesture'

Pakistan has released 100 Indian fishermen as a “goodwill gesture” amidst tensions between the two countries after the Pulwama terror attack.

The released prisoners were taken to the Karachi Cantonment Railway Station under heavy security, where they boarded the Allama Iqbal Express for Lahore, The Express Tribune reported.

From Lahore, they would be taken to the Wagah Border for handover to the Indian authorities, it said.

Militants, Security Forces Exchange Fire in J&K's Pulwama

A brief exchange of firing took place between militants and security forces on Sunday in the Tral area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, Army officials said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the forest area of Tral in Pulwama district in the morning following information about the presence of militants in the area, they said.

The officials said there was a brief exchange of firing between the two sides but no casualties were reported in the incident.

Three Killed in Nigeria Suicide Bomb Attack

Three people died and more than 30 injured in a twin suicide blast in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, militia sources and residents said Sunday.

Two female bombers late Saturday detonated their explosives among a crowd in Muna Dalti on the outskirts of the city, the birthplace of the Boko Haram jihadist group.

“They came around 8:00 pm (1900 GMT) and detonated their suicide vests,” Umar Ari, a local militia leader said.

Dutch Prosecutors Arrest 3 for Allegedly Laundering $1.2 Bn for Ambani Unit

Dutch investigators have arrested three former employees of a local firm suspected of laundering 1.2 billion dollars through over-invoicing services and works rendered for a gas pipeline built by a unit controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, a charge vehemently denied by Reliance Industries.

East West Pipeline Ltd (EWPL), which was previously known as Reliance Gas Transportation Infrastructure Ltd (RGTIL), denied that any money was laundered at any stage during implementation of the project and that higher capital cost of a pipeline would result in higher tariff for users for receiving natural gas through the line.

Dust Storm, Rain In Delhi Brings Down Temperature Slightly In Some Areas

After a hot day at 36 degrees in Delhi, the capital city was swept by a dust storm followed by light showers as predicted by the Meteorological Department. The storm also resulted in a slight dip in temperature.
