1. Terror Attack Claims Third Life From Telangana

The Christchurch mosques terror attack on Friday claimed a third life from the state as it came to light that a 25-year-old student from Hyderabad who was listed ‘missing’ succumbed to the injuries. A tweet from the official handle of the Indian High Commission in New Zealand named Ozair Kadir on a list of those who died in the attack.

The second of four siblings, Ozair moved to New Zealand around a year ago to pursue a course in aviation. According to sources close to the family, he was born in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and lived there for several years. His family is based in Noor Khan Bazaar in the Old City. His father, Kadir Habib, is an NRI who has been living in Saudi Arabia for more than 30 years. The victim’s elder brother, Omair Kadir, is a pilot. Two other siblings are students. The victim’s family runs a well-known textile shop in Dabeerpura.

2. Beneficiaries of EWS Quota in Limbo

After the Central government decided to provide 10% reservation to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in education and employment opportunities, aspirants in Telangana are finding it difficult to obtain the necessary certificate to avail themselves of the quota in the absence of any norms for issuing the same.

Candidates who are applying for thousands of jobs in various departments of the Central government are running from pillar to post to obtain the certificate, only to be told by the authorities that they are yet to receive instructions from the government on the methods to be followed to judge the eligibility of the candidates.

3. Hitec City Metro to Be Flagged off Tomorrow

The 10-km Ameerpet-Hitec City Metro Rail service will become operational from March 20. The service will be flagged off from the Ameerpet station by Governor ESL Narasimhan in the morning.

With the Hitec City Metro Rail station not having a reverse facility, the trains will be operated in the ‘twin single line method’. The two tracks are treated as two separate single lines and trains are operated in both ‘up’ and ‘down’ directions on each line separately.

4. Bank Transactions to Be Closely Monitored

Bank transactions of candidates, spouses and relatives will be closely monitored during the elections in Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituencies.

A meeting of income-tax department officials, bankers and duty election officers was held in the GHMC on Monday, 18 March, to discuss the details of suspicious transactions which can raise doubts and have to be brought to the notice of the Election Commission.

5. Glitches Halt E-Auction of Uppal Plots

For a second time, the e-auction of plots in the Uppal Bhagat layout is facing technical glitches. Those intending to bid for the plots during the auction scheduled for 7 and 8 April said they were unable to open the registration website.

The HMDA will e-auction 72 acres of land in a new venture at Uppal Bhagat. It expects to earn Rs 1,100 crore by selling 83 2,000-square metre plots in the new layout, and 1.16 lakh square yards in the leftover plots in the old layout.
