1. Vijay Mallya Used Force India, RCB for Laundering: ED

Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted a second charge sheet in a special court against businessman Vijay Mallya, UB Holdings and the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, along with others, charging them with laundering Rs 9,990 crore which they had fraudulently availed as loan from State Bank of India-led consortium of 17 banks.

The charge sheet said that Mallya used his Force India Formula 1 Team (private company registered in London) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (IPL team) for money laundering.

2. Mumbai DRI Probe: Drug Gang’s Cartel Links Under Scanner

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is probing into the foreign links of the members, arrested for the inter-state Ketamine drug manufacturing and smuggling syndicate, which the agency recently busted. The gang operates internationally in Canada and across Africa.

DRI officials suspect, the key members of the gang-Jimi Singh Sandhu and British national Jonathan Thorn alias John, were smuggling Ketamine out of India and selling it to rackets operating in Canada and Africa.

3. Mumbai: 65-Yr-Old Arrested for ‘Raping’ 8-Yr-Old Girl

A 65-year-old man was arrested in Kalyan for allegedly raping an eight-year old girl on Monday, 18 June. The accused, Kamundas Manikpure, allegedly lured the victim with chocolates, took her to a public toilet and sexually abused her.

After the incident came to light, an FIR was registered at Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan. The accused was arrested on Monday evening and booked for rape and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

4. Passerby Among Three Killed in Delhi Gang War

In a suspected case of gang rivalry, members of a group opened fire at another at north Delhi’s Burari on Monday, 18 June, killing three people, including a minor and a woman passer-by. Five persons were also injured in the incident, the police said.

The incident was suspected to be a fallout of a rivalry between Jitender Gogi and Tillu Tajpur gangs, the police added.

The deceased have been identified as Mukul alias Sunny, 16, a resident of Narela’s Nangal Thakran; a man suspected to be Sanjeet who is a member of the Gogi gang; and the passerby Sangeeta Sharma, 37, a resident of Sant Nagar.

5. ED Summons Nalini Chidambaram Again in Saradha Ponzi Scheme Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former finance minister P Chidambaram, in connection with its money laundering probe into the Saradha ponzi scam.

Officials said Nalini has been summoned at the Kolkata office of the central probe agency on 20 June.

She was last summoned by the agency for 7 May but she appealed against the summons before the Madras High Court.

In her appeal, Nalini, a senior advocate, has challenged the 24 April order of Justice SM Subramaniam dismissing her petition against the ED’s summons asking her to appear as a witness in its money laundering probe in the Saradha chit fund scam case.

6. Ex-BJP MLA Nalin Kotadiya Declared Proclaimed Offender in Extortion Case

A sessions court on Monday, 18 June, declared former BJP MLA Nalin Kotadiya a proclaimed offender for his alleged involvement in the extortion of a Surat-based buisnessman in Bitcoins worth Rs 9.95 crore. Additional sessions judge P J Tamakuwala, while ordering that a written proclamation be published against Kotadiya, said, “This court is subjectively satisfied that Nalin Nanjibhai Kotadiya is absconding or has been concealing himself. The terms absconded in its ordinary sense means to hide oneself.”

7. SC Rejects Bail Plea of DS Kulkarni’s Son Shirish

The Supreme Court has rejected the interim bail application of Shirish Kulkarni, son of jailed real estate developer D S Kulkarni (DSK). Shirish along with his father DSK , mother Hemanti and seven others are accused in a Rs 2,000-crore investor fraud case.

Earlier, the Bombay High Court on 15 June had also rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Shirish in a case of cheating lodged by a depositor in the DSK Group of companies. Shirish has been accused of playing an important role in divesting depositors’ money, according to investigation carried out by the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Pune police.

8. Pratapgarh Tense as Tribal People Picket Police Station, Vandalise It

The situation in Salamgarh area of Pratapgarh district in southern Rajasthan became tense on Monday, 18 June, when hundreds of tribal people picketed the police station, pelting stones at the police staff and went on a rampage, forcing police to order a lathi charge and lob tear gas shells.

Some reports suggested that the tribal people ran away with some police weapons but this could not be verified until filing the report.

Police said that the tribal people were agitated over the arrest of a sarpanch (village panchayat head) on Sunday evening, 17 June, on charges of making inflammatory speech.

9. Bihar Minors Among 8 Held for Sedition, Attempt to Promote Disharmony

Police in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Monday, 18 June, arrested eight people, including five minors, on the charges of sedition and attempt to promote disharmony after a video that went viral on social media showed them playing an “anti-national song” at a function.

Three of those arrested had been identified as Mohammad Raza Khan, organiser of the function, DJ music system operator Ashish Kumar and driver Mukesh Kumar, the police said.

The police said the video was shot during the event organised on the occasion of Eid festival on Friday, 15 June, in Dhoosh locality of Nasriganj police station area of Rohtas district. The video went viral after it was posted on social media on Saturday, 16 June.
