1. NRI Held for Molesting American in a Five-Star Hotel in New Delhi

A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) working as a contractor with a global IT firm was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a 52-year-old American woman in a room at Taj Diplomatic Enclave hotel on Monday. The woman alleged that the accused laced her drink and tried to grope her while she was semi-conscious. Police have registered a case of molestation at Chanakyapuri and arrested the man.

In her complaint, the woman, who had arrived in India on 6 January, told cops that the 25-year-old accused had met her at the hotel in Chanakyapuri on 8 January. She said she met the man near the hotel's pool area, and he invited her to his room for a drink. She alleged that the man had mixed something in her drink which made her woozy, and he then tried to grab her. However, she managed to push him away and leave the room.

2. Six Held for Raping Minor Girl With Mental Illness

A 15-year-old girl, described by the police as “intellectually disabled”, was allegedly gangraped by six persons in the guardroom of a park near her home in Mandawali. Police said the incident took place on 8 January, but the girl could not convey what had transpired to her parents.

On 11 January, she managed to narrate her ordeal to doctors at Lady Hardinge Hospital — where she has been undergoing treatment for mental illness. “Due to her mental illness and intellectual disability, it took the girl three days to process what had happened and narrate the incident,” a senior police officer said.

3. Three Women Robbed Within 15 Minutes in West Delhi

Criminals went on a snatching spree in west Delhi's Hari Nagar on Thursday by targeting three women within a span of 15 minutes – between 8.30 am and 8.45 am.

In the first incident reported from Shiv Nagar at 8.30 am, a 53-year-old woman, Sushma Monga, was waiting for an auto to get to her office in CGO Complex. Three men on a bike snatched her bag slung on her left shoulder while she was looking for something inside it.

Even as the policemen were attending to Monga's complaint, they got another call from barely 200 metres away in Fateh Nagar. A 36-year-old woman, Manpreet Kaur, was robbed of her two cellphones at knifepoint by two men on a scooty while she was walking towards her gym.

The cops received the third call from Fateh Nagar at 8.45 am in which a 59-year-old woman, Balvinder Kaur, had become the next victim of snatchers.

4. Youth Gets a Year in Prison for Stalking Girl, Threatening to Throw Acid on Her

A 24-year-old was convicted on Friday and sentenced to one year in jail for stalking his 16-year-old neighbour and threatening to throw acid on the minor and kill her parents when she objected to his advances.

A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act court found him guilty of stalking, sexual harassment through sexually-coloured remarks, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, and under section 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Pocso Act.

The victim, a student of a Sion college, was stalked by the accused for a year before the family complained to the cops in 2015.

5. To Meet Film Stars, Murder Accused Posed as CJI's Son

A man pretending to be the son of the Chief Justice of India was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering an acquaintance over a property dispute in 2017.

Police said the accused, Varun alias Vardhman, assumed the fake identity so he could “meet Bollywood stars”. According to police, Varun hails from Patna and was looking for a way to befriend people in the film industry. Police said he pretended to be the CJI’s son and would hire expensive cars and take bouncers everywhere he went.

6. Boxer Found Murdered in His Greater Noida Flat

A 27-year-old boxer was found murdered on Friday with multiple gunshot injuries at his flat in a multi-storey apartment in Greater Noida, police said.

Police said Jitender Mann had participated in many junior international boxing championships.

He was found dead by his friend Pritam Tokas and some family members when they went to check on him around 2 pm at AVJ Heights in ZETA Sector 3 in Greater Noida.

“After leaving boxing about seven months ago due to injury, Mann was working as a gym instructor. He had not gone to the gym for two days and his phone was also found switched off,” superintendent of police (rural) Suniti told IANS.

7. Major Arms Supplier Arrested

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police claim to have arrested an arms supplier who had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head. Four pistols were recovered from his possession, the police said on Friday.

Jeetu Sharma alias Shiv Kumar was arrested near Indraprastha Park on 5 January after the police received a tip off.

“Information was received that Jeetu was often coming to Delhi to supply arms to criminals. On 5 January, specific input was received that he would be near Indraprastha Park around 6 pm to deliver a consignment,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwaha.

8. Ghaziabad: Police Wait for Autopsy Report for Clarity on Boy Death

Two days after an eight-year-old boy died after being allegedly beaten up by his teacher at a private school in Ghaziabad’s Loni, police said they are waiting for the postmortem report to shed more light on the case. “Once the report tells us about the cause of his death, action will be taken,” Durgesh Kumar Singh, CO Loni, Ghaziabad, said. While police have filed an FIR against the teacher under IPC Section 304, the school principal declined to comment.

Meanwhile, the boy’s father, Sujauddin, alleged that his 12-year-old daughter saw the teacher hitting the child. He also alleged that this was not the first time his son was beaten in school. “Around four-five months ago, the school had said he could not attend classes since his fees had not been paid. We went the next day and deposited the school fee. Due to delay in paying school fees, the teacher hit him,” Sujauddin alleged.

9. Former Block Head's Daughter Raped, Killed

A former block head's teenage daughter was allegedly raped and poisoned to death on Saturday in Makrandpur-Kotra village in Kanpur, the police said.

The body of the girl, whose uncle is a retired district judge of Barabanki, was found dumped this morning in a cattle enclosure behind her house, they said.

The girl's father said that his daughter, a first year BSc student, had got a telephone call in the early hours of Friday while her family members were fast asleep and went outside.
