1. Homeless Teenager Beaten to Death, Two Arrested

An 18-year-old homeless teen was beaten to death allegedly by the owner of a tent shop and his employee on suspicion of theft in central Delhi’s Paharganj on Wednesday night.

The accused have been caught by policemen on patrolling duty when they were thrashing the teen on the road for stealing their cycle cart.

Police said that on Wednesday night around 11 pm they received a PCR call saying that two persons were thrashing a boy outside Rohit Tent House at Multani Dhandha in Paharganj.

2. Class 10 Schoolgirl Gang-Raped by Two Youths While Returning Home

A 16-year-old who was preparing for her class 10 board exams slated to begin on February 12 was abducted and gang-raped while she was returning to her home in Bharatpur village of West Bengal’s West Midnapore district.

The incident took place on Thursday night near Debra, about 105 km to the west of Kolkata.

Two youths are alleged to have abducted the girl by force and committed the crime. She was later found abandoned by the side of a road and rushed to Debra Hospital and later to Midnapore Medical College Hospital and subjected to a medical test on Friday.

3. Body of Woman Found in a Farmhouse in Kota

A blood-stained body of a woman aged around 35 was recovered from a farmhouse in Rajasthan's Kota city on Friday morning, police said.

The body was found at a farm house in Aakashvani colony area here with marks of severe injuries on her head, Sub Inspector at the Nayapura police station Ashok Verma said.

The identity of the deceased woman could not be established so far, he said.

4. Kolkata: Fake Job Racket Busted, Seven Arrested

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday arrested seven persons for their alleged involvement in a fake job racket. “Based on an input that a racket was being run by several persons, who were inducing and duping job aspirants to pay huge amount for providing various government jobs, a suo motu case was registered,” DIG (CID-Operations) Nishat Parvez said.

5. Woman ‘Raped, Tortured’; Husband, His Brother Held

Kolkata police on Friday arrested a man after his wife alleged that she was raped and tortured by him and her in-laws. The man’s brother was also arrested for allegedly raping her.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman, her in-laws would regularly force her to ask her parents to give dowry. “The woman alleged that she was forced to establish physical relation with her brother-in-law on the pretext that it was a practice in their family to exchange wife between brothers,” said a senior police officer.

6. Dispute Over Phone Call Led to 19-Year-Old’s Death in Gurugram, 4 Held

A dispute over a phone call led to the death of a 19-year-old man on the New Year’s eve in Sector 7, said the police on Thursday.

Sonu Sharma, a resident of Shivpuri, succumbed to his injuries at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Wednesday morning, two days after he and his friend, Deepanshu, were allegedly beaten up with a baseball bat, sticks and canes by a group of drunken men. Sharma was arrested in April 2018 for allegedly raping a minor girl and was released recently on bail.

7. Caste Conflict Fears in Nalanda After Mob Lynching; Heavy Police Deployed, Five Held

Heavy police bandobast has been made in Nalanda district as tension prevailed for the second consecutive day after a violent mob led by RJD supporters ransacked homes and lynched two persons to death on Wednesday.

By Thursday, the unruly incident took caste colour as sympathisers of those killed assembled in large numbers at the crematorium and avenged to get justice to the bereaved families. Its Paswans (SC) versus Yadavs (BC) in Nalanda now.
