1. Guard Firing at Judge’s Wife, Son Was Result of ‘Sudden Provocation’: Police

Four days after a security guard killed the wife and injured the son of a judge, the police said the shooting at a busy market in Gurugram was the result of a “sudden provocation”.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumit Kuhar said the personal security officer (PSO) Mahipal lost his temper when the judge’s wife and son scolded him on Saturday for being untraceable after they had finished their shopping.

The DCP said the murder followed this “sudden provocation”.

Mahipal allegedly shot at additional district and sessions judge Krishan Kant’s wife Ritu and 18-year-old son Dhruv. While the judge’s wife died later in hospital, his son is on life support.

2. Teen Found Hanging at Noida Home

A 13-year-old boy was found hanging at his home in Noida’s Barola Monday evening, 15 October. Police said the boy was found by his mother, who broke the door when he didn’t respond despite repeated knocks. His mother said the boy was breathing when she got him down from the ceiling. She rushed him to a nearby government hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said.

Station House Officer (Sector 49) Anita Chauhan said, “We received a memo from the hospital about the body. Initially, the parents were not willing to conduct a post-mortem, but we said it needs to be done. No suicide note was found. We are investigating if the boy was depressed.”

3. Rewari Again: 7-Year-Old Allegedly Raped on Way Home from School

A seven-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped on Tuesday, 16 October, in Haryana’s Rewari when she was returning home from her school, the police said. The 35-year-old accused, identified as Raju, has been arrested.

The incident comes just over a month after a brutal gangrape in the district of a 19-year-old board topper that triggered widespread outrage. The teenager was abducted while she was going to attend her coaching classes on 12 September.

In the latest case, the girl, daughter of a migrant labourer, was lured by the accused with sweets and was taken to a secluded field where he allegedly raped her and then fled. The victim, who was profusely bleeding, managed to reach her home following which her parents rushed her to the hospital and called the police.

4. Six Arrested for Failed Cash Van Loot Bid

Almost a week after a 50-year-old man was shot by robbers in a bid to loot a cash van in Mayur Vihar, police have arrested six men, including an employee of Brinks — the agency which provided the van.

The deceased had fought and prevented the robbery of Rs 4.2 crore, which was being taken from one branch of the bank to another.

The incident took place on 8 October, Monday at 10.30pm when the security guard, Bishamber Singh, was shot. Singh and two others were intercepted by a white Scorpio with six men. They started firing at the van, when a bullet hit Singh in the neck. The custodian, who sat behind with the cash, later made a PCR call, while a passersby took Singh to a hospital where he died during treatment.

5. 'Sadhvi' Accused of Sexual Assault at Rajasthan Ashram

A case of sexual assault was registered on Wednesday against a Sadhvi (Female Hindu monk) running an ashram (shelter) for women in Kanota, Jaipur district.

The complaint, filed by a resident of the ashram on 29 September, accused Sadhvi Samdarshi of sexual assault under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In her complaint, the victim who is a mother to a 5-year-old and has been living at the ashram for two months said she was sleeping in the Sadhvi’s room because she was recovering from an operation. At the time, the victim said, the Sadhvi tried to grope and assault her.

6. Man Beats Aunt to Death, Injures Mother

A 45-year-old man allegedly battered his elderly aunt to death with a flower pot and injured his mother by hitting her on the head with a brick in north Delhi’s Burari on Tuesday night, 16 October. The accused has been arrested and the police suspect that he is mentally ill.

Police identified the accused as Kanhaiya Kumar, who lives with his family in Burari village. The incident was reported late night on Tuesday when the accused came to his house and started an argument with his wife and daughter.

A senior police officer said that the man asked them to not step out of the house or go to work. Kumar’s aunt, Bala Devi (65), and mother, Maya (70), heard him screaming at them. The elderly women pointed out to Kumar that he was unemployed in the house whereas the women had jobs, which agitated him further.

7. Child Injured as RJs Hurl CDs at Garba Crowd, Video Goes Viral

An FIR has been registered against five radio jockeys (RJs) of a popular FM radio station here after a 4-year-old boy sustained injuries at a garba event in Ahmedabad city. The boy’s father has alleged that the RJs recklessly threw CDs of a music album in the crowd when one of the CDs hit his son’s face close to his eye.

The FIR was lodged at Vastrapur police station on Tuesday by one Bhavesh Jhalavadia, a resident of south Bopal. He said that on Friday, 12 October, he had gone to a garba event on Sindhu Bhavan road with his family.

Jhalavadia named the five RJs – Devaki, Aayush, Dhrumil, Nishita and Harsh, all working for 93.5 Red FM – in his complaint to the police. Jhalavadia alleged that the accused RJs were throwing the CDs covered in plastic wrappers at the crowd which was performing the garba dance.

8. Theft in Chennai's Sowcarpet Leads to I-T Department Seizure of Rs 85 Lakh

Initially it was merely a theft case, but a probe by the Madurai police has changed it into an income tax case in which the I-T sleuths seized Rs 85 lakh from some premises in Sowcarpet.

According to Income Tax sources, the thief had given gold jewels to a person in Sowcarpet. While the police were probing the theft case, they stumbled upon a huge tranche of cash worth Rs 85 lakh at the premises of the person who had received the jewels.

They alerted the I-T officials, who, in turn, conducted a raid.

9. Man Held with ₹66L Gold at IGI

Customs arrested a man for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold valuing about Rs 66 lakh at the Delhi airport, according to an official statement issued Wednesday, 17 October.

The passenger was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai on Monday.

A search of his baggage resulted in the recovery of four gold pieces, crudely given the shape of a bar and collectively weighing 2.3 kg, the statement stated.
