1. Girl Set on Fire by Stalker in Uttar Pradesh, Dies
A 16-year-old girl died on Monday, 30 July in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district, after being set on fire by an alleged stalker. On 29 July, a man identified by the girl’s father as 18-year-old Mohammad Zahid barged into the girl’s house, poured kerosene on her and set her aflame.
The girl’s family was able to douse the fire, but by then, she had already suffered severe burns. Navin Kumar Tiwari of Kotwali police station said: “The girl was a student of Class 10. According to the girl’s father, Zahid used to harass his daughter. Upset over this, she informed her family about it.”
She died during treatment on Monday.

2. Father Marries Off Minor-Daughter to Pay Debt
A minor girl was married off by her father to a 25-year-old man in Greater Noida two months ago, allegedly so he could pay off a debt.
On the night of 29 July, the girl’s mother eventually lodged a case with police. “An FIR has been filed under sections 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. We have arrested the child’s father, husband and the mediator who facilitated the marriage,” said SHO of Surajpur police station, Manoj Kumar Pant.
The family said the girl was married into an agricultural family from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district.

3. Woman Kills 3 Children, Ends Life
A A 30-year-old woman and her three children, who had been missing for the past three days, were found dead in a well near Tamil Nadu’s Karimangalam in Dharmapuri district on Monday, 30 July.
Police said she took the extreme step after a quarrel with her alcoholic husband. The deceased were identified as L Nathiya, her children Poovarasan, 12, Sanjay, 8, and Nirmal, 6, all from Sennampatty near Karimangalam.

4. Woman Abducts Two Kids; Ransom: Their Father
A woman has been arrested for allegedly abducting two children of a man who she was reportedly in a relationship with. The woman had abducted a five-year-old boy and his two-year-old sister, and made a call to the mother of the two — demanding that she send her husband over, police said.
“We have arrested the woman, Reena, for abducting the children. We have rescued both children, who have been reunited with their mother. The father of the children is missing and our teams are trying to ascertain his location,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Devender Arya.
The two children stay with their mother, who works as a domestic help in Munirka. Their father works as a labourer in the locality.

5. Indian Student Killed in Australia
A teenage girl was charged with murder in Australia on Monday, 30 July for killing an Indian student she had met through a dating app.
Jamie Lee Dolheguy, 18, was arrested last week over an attack on Maulin Rathod at her home in Sunbury on Monday, which left him with fatal injuries. The 25-year-old student died in a hospital the following day.
The teenager was charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury and recklessly causing serious injury, and also faced a charge of murder. Dolheguy and Rathod reportedly met through a dating app and decided to meet each other.

6. Pregnant Woman Raped by Husband’s Friend
A 24-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Gandhi Nagar locality on Monday, 30 July. Investigation officer ASI Laeeq Khan said that the survivor is 6 months pregnant.
In her complaint, the survivor has alleged that in the afternoon she took medicine and was resting. Her husband had gone to Indore for some work. At 1 pm, the accused who lives in the neighbourhood, came asking for a fishing rod. When he found she was alone, he allegedly raped her. The accused allegedly threatened the survivor of dire consequences, if she revealed the incident to anyone. The survivor went to her in-laws house and narrated her ordeal, said ASI Khan.
The family approached Gandhi Nagar police and filed a complaint.

7. Four Assailants Flee with Rs 40 Lakh, Two Shot At
Two persons were injured after they were shot at by four unidentified miscreants who fled with Rs 40 lakh in north-west Delhi’s Keshav Puram on Monday, 30 July, the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan said they received a PCR call around 12:30 p.m. stating that two people were fired at near Wazirpur flyover. The injured, Tejpal (50) and Rajkumar Bhasin (52), employees of a pharmaceutical company Sanyog Enterprises Private Limited, were taken to Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh by the police.
Tejpal was shot in the back and Rajkumar received a bullet injury in the shoulder, the officer said. “Teams are scanning CCTV camera footage of the nearby spots to ascertain the identity of the accused”, the police said. Police are continuing the investigation and yet to catch the perpetrators.

8. Father Kills Sons Over a Fight with His Wife
A man allegedly killed his two young sons by throwing them in a well and attempted suicide by consuming poison in Gujarat’s Bhata Chopda village. A fight with his wife over an extra-marital affair is said to be the reason for the gruesome step.
According to police, they were informed about the incident on Monday, 30 July. The bodies of the two sons Dhaval (7) and Harshil (4) were fished out of the well and an offence was registered against their father Bhikha Pagi.
Sources said that Bhikha had been accused of raping a minor girl recently. He had an affair with the girl and wanted to bring her home. This led to a fights between him and his wife. In a fit of rage, Bhikha allegedly made his sons drink some liquid and then threw them in the well.

9. Mob Thrashes Interfaith Couple in Uttarakhand
A mob beat up a Muslim boy, said to be around 18 years old, after he was found in a hotel room with a minor girl from the Hindu community in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on Monday 30 July. Locals thrashed the youth who hails from Bijnore district in UP and worked as a barber. The mob then put a garland of shoes around his neck and paraded him in the area.
They also ransacked the shop where the teenager worked and damaged other shops belonging to members of the minority community. All the shops in the area were closed and police force deployed at the spot.
Ajay Rautela, Deputy inspector general of Garhwal, said, “A case is being registered against the youth and police will also probe the violence. Anyone found guilty of taking the law in their hands will not be spared.” He added that the youth has been “medically examined and his injuries are not of a serious nature”.
