1. Uttar Pradesh Police Arrests 19 People in Ghazipur Cop’s Death Case

Police arrested 19 people on Sunday after 32 protesters were named in a first information report (FIR) over the killing of a policeman during mob violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, according to officials.

Head constable Suresh Pratap Singh Vats (48) was killed on Saturday when protesters threw stones at vehicles returning from the venue of a public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vats was hit on the head by a stone when he went to clear a traffic jam. The protesters allegedly belonged to the Nishad Party, a two-year-old political group. They turned violent while demanding the release of four members of the party who were arrested over a blockade.

2. Man Stabbed to Death, Teenager Nabbed

A 21-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by an 18-year-old late on December 29 in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri, the police said on Sunday.

The accused has been arrested.

A senior officer said the victim has been identified as Navjeevan Camp resident Rishi and the accused as Tughlakabad Extension resident Mohd Aadil.

The police said Rishi was standing with a few friends outside Aadil’s shop, when the accused asked them to move.

3. Abducted, Assaulted in Jail on Don Atiq’s Order: Realtor

A real-estate businessman, Mohit Jaiswal, has alleged that he was abducted from Lucknow and driven to the Deoria jail, almost 300 km away, on December 26 where gangster Atiq Ahmed, his son Umar, and their associates assaulted him, forced him to sign over property worth Rs 48 crore to two of their associates, and took his SUV.

Police arrested two of Ahmed’s associates, Ghulam Moindeen and Irfan, Saturday from Gomti Nagar in Lucknow and recovered the SUV from their possession based on an FIR by Jaiswal. The state government has directed Deoria jail authorities to probe the incident.

4. Missing 3-Year-Old Girl Found Murdered

A three-year-old girl was found murdered in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera village village on Saturday evening. The child was missing from her her home since Wednesday.

5. Mob Attacks Police in Lucknow Over 5-Year-Old Girl’s Murder; 3 Cops Injured

In another instance of mob violence against police in Uttar Pradesh, three policemen and an elderly woman were injured on Sunday as protests against the murder of a five-year-old girl allegedly by a minor in Lucknow turned violent.

This was the third instance of policemen in the state being targeted this month. On December 3, police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed in mob violence triggered by the recovery of several cow carcasses in Bulandshahr district, while on Saturday, police constable Suresh Kumar Vats was killed and several others were injured as a protest by Nishad Party workers turned violent in Ghazipur, barely 15 kilometres from the venue of a rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day.

6. BJP MLC’s Uncle Shot Dead in Suspected Maoist Attack in Bihar

In a late night attack on Saturday, more than 50 heavily-armed suspected Maoists attacked the houses of BJP Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Rajan Singh and his transporter cousin Sunil Singh in Sudi Bigaha under the Dev police station area of Aurangabad district in south Bihar.

Though Rajan Singh was not at home when the attack happened, his uncle Nagendra Singh, 65 who lives with him, was shot dead when he tried to prevent the Maoists from planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to blow up the houses that are adjacent to each other.

7. Rajasthan: Man Nabbed, Beaten up in Alwar on Suspicion of Cow Smuggling

A man was allegedly nabbed and beaten up by villagers in the jungles of Bagheri Khurd in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on the suspicion of smuggling cows.

The victim, identified as Sagir Khan, was taking six cows in a pick-up van through a village in Alwar when he was nabbed and roughed up.

The police soon reached the location and took him to Kishangarhbaas hospital. From there, he was referred to Alwar city. Khan is currently undergoing treatment at the trauma centre in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. He hails from Mirzapur.

8. UP: Woman Allegedly Beaten up and Paraded Naked in Village for Resisting Sexual Harassment

A woman was allegedly beaten up, disrobed and forced to run around her village naked for resisting sexual harassers in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district on Saturday, PTI reported. Some villagers also shot videos of the alleged incident.

Circle Officer Yadavendra Yadav said one of the four people who committed the crime has been arrested.
