1. AIADMK Announces Candidates for 4 Assembly Seats
The ruling AIADMK on Tuesday announced its candidates for by-polls to four Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu scheduled on 19 May. Party Coordinator O Panneerselvam and Joint Coordinator K Palaniswami said in a statement that the decision to field the candidates to Sulur, Aravakurichi, Tirupprankundram and Ottapidaram (SC) was taken by the party's Parliamentary Board.
The two leaders named VP Kandasamy (Sulur), VV Senthilnathan (Aravakurichi), S Muniyandi (Tirupparankundram) and P Mohan to Oddapidaram as the party's nominees. Mohan is a former MLA while the others hold various party posts.

2. TN Advocate Alleges Pollachi-Like Sexual Assaults in Perambalur, Case Filed
A month after the sexual abuse and extortion of women in Pollachi came to light, an advocate in Perambalur district has reported a similar case. In a petition to the police, he has alleged that a group of men have been abusing, video-recording and blackmailing over 20 women in the town.
In the petition dated 21 April, advocate P Arul has stated that a group of men, including an important leader in the district from the ruling party and a man pretending to be a journalist, is involved. They allegedly befriend unsuspecting housewives and college girls, call them to a private location, sexually assault them and take videos of the assault. These videos are later used to threaten them for more sexual favours or to extort money, the petition adds.

3. Heart, Organs of Youngest Donor Saves Lives of Six Others
Doctors at Fortis Malar Hospital successfully performed a heart transplant to save the life of a two-year-old boy from Villupuram, after receiving it from a donor of his age. According to a release, “The recipient, Rohan, received the heart from the youngest organ donor, a two-year-old boy from Mumbai. The transplant was performed by a team of doctors led Dr K R Balakrishnan, Director, Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Malar Hospital.”
“On 10 February, the two-year-old donor suffered irreversible brain damage. The family decided to donate the organs. The organs saved the lives of six people, out of which four recipients were children including Rohan. A team of doctors from Fortis Malar hospital flew to Mumbai to retrieve the heart which was air-lifted to Chennai.”

4. Action Against Polling Officials Who Allowed Sivakarthikeyan to Vote: TN CEO
Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Tuesday said an inquiry has revealed that actor Sivakarthikeyan had been allowed to cast his vote on 18 April even though his name was not there in the electoral rolls and action would be taken against the polling officials who had allowed this.
Answering the queries of reporters, the CEO said he had got a report from the District Election Officer about the incident and it was confirmed that the actor had cast his vote without his name being in the electoral rolls.

5. Krishnagiri: Tree Falls on Track, Timely Alert Saves Train
A timely alert prevented a running train from hitting an uprooted tree that had fallen onto the track. The region had experienced heavy winds followed by rains, resulting in fallen trees and snapped power lines. Passengers on board the Yeshwanthpur-Salem passenger train on Monday had a miraculous escape thanks to a timely alert by some railway staff who noticed an uprooted tree lying on the track at Muneeshwaran Nagar.
Train services between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka resumed after the tree was cleared from the track. Similar was the situation regarding road transport also, since fallen trees were reported in many places across the district.
