1. Court Orders Police Probe Against Former IPS Sanjiv Bhatt

Acting on a complaint filed by a Gandhinagar resident Amit Solanki against former IPS Sanjiv Bhatt allegedly for cheating and criminal breach of trust, a metropolitan court on Tuesday, 24 September, ordered a preliminary inquiry on the complaint.

The court directed the police inspector of Shahibaug police station to probe the allegations and file a report within the next three months.

Apparently, Solanki has claimed in his complaint that Bhatt had planned to raise Rs 1.5 crore through crowdfunding under 'Indians Fight for Justice' campaign on social media platforms by deceiving people with falsities.

He also claimed that through the campaign Bhatt is attempting to convert black money into white and that Rs 26 lakh has been already collected.

2. BJP Holds Meeting for Bypolls on 6 Seats in Gujarat

The Parliamentary board meeting of the BJP in the state was held at the residence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani to finalise the names of candidates, who are about to contest Assembly bypolls from the six seats.

Sources said the names of potential candidates will be sent to the top party functionaries in Delhi, who will declare the name in a day or two. Alpesh Thakor may be repeated from Radhanpur while Dhavalsinh Zala likely to contest from Bayad.

The Tharad seat from where Shankar Chaudhary is among the possible candidates saw some tiff over the former minister's name being proposed.

3. India's Tallest Man Operated in Ahmedabad Hospital

A city-based private hospital has successfully carried out the bilateral hip replacement surgery of the tallest man in India—Dharmendra Pratap Singh—who fell short of just two inches to clinch the world record.

A resident of Pratapgarh in Lucknow, Singh's height is 8 feet 1 inch and he was admitted in the hospital with complaints of difficulty in walking and carrying out his daily activities due to arthritic pain in the hip joints since 6 years.

A team of four joint replacement surgeons—Ateet Sharma, Amir Sanghavi, Hemang Ambani, and Chirag Patel—which carried out the surgeries told DNA that treating Singh had its own challenges and everything in the hospital, from his bed to the operation theatre table, had to be customised owing to the height of the patient. Also, the implants which were to be used for Singh's surgeries had to be specially ordered and brought from Chennai as they were not of normal size.

4. 100 ‘Nirbhaya’ Vans With CCTV to Curb Sexual Harassment

In a bid to curb the menace of sexual harassment of women in public places, the city police will soon be inducting into its fleet 100 ‘Nirbhaya’ vans equipped with state-of-the-art technological advancements such as CCTV live monitoring, facial recognition, vehicle registration detection software and a database of past offenders.

The 108 Abhayam Helpline team will use the ‘Nirbhaya’ vans with an aim to lessen their crisis response time and catch culprits using the latest software.

These vans will be posted on the streets of colleges, universities, markets, malls and other busy areas and will be the first respondents to crisis calls made by women victims. Apart from eve teasing, the vans will also store records of past accused in chain snatching incidents and report to live complaints of the same.

5. Civil Court Summons Singer Kinjal Dave Over Charges of Copyright Infringement

Ahead of Athe festival of Navratri, Gujarati singer Kinjal Dave was issued a notice and summons by a city civil court on Saturday. She has been asked to appear before the court on 10 October, in relation to copyright infringement charges for her popular garba song, “Char char bangdi vadi gadi”.

Australia-based Gujarati singer Kartik Patel had moved the civil suit against Dave — through Red Ribbon Entertainment Pvt Ltd — alleging copyright infringement, seeking an injunction against her performing or playing the song under provisions of the Civil Procedure Code (CPC). Patel’s lawyer refused to comment regarding whether any monetary compensation is being sought, owing to the matter is sub judice.
