1. Three From Gujarat Get a Seat in Modi's Cabinet

The only Lok Sabha MP from Gujarat to make it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's team was BJP president Amit Shah. In all three MPs from Gujarat, Modi's home state, will be part of the new government. Of the three, Mansukh Mandaviya and Parshottam Rupala are being inducted for the second time.

Shah, the architect is BJP's most trusted candidate in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls and a long-term confidant of Modi, had won the Gandhinagar seat from Gujarat with a victory margin of 5.57 lakh votes. Shah managed to get the highest victory margin. The seat has been represented by LK Advani earlier.

Earlier Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani told media persons that Shah would indeed be part of the Cabinet although he did not clarify on the portfolio likely to be given to him.

2. As PM Modi Takes Oath in Delhi, His Mother Cheers Watching Son on TV in Ahmedabad

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath of office along with ministers in his cabinet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, 30 May, his mother Heeraben Modi was pictured happily clapping at her home in Ahmedabad watching her son on television.

The PM’s mother stays with his younger brother in Ahmedabad’s Raisan. Modi is the third among six children and the nonagenarian has been in the spotlight several times before whenever Modi visits his mother to seek her blessings.

3. Cops to Use Laser Guns to Crack Down on Over-Speeding

The Gujarat government has decided to equip the traffic police with 'laser guns' for detection of over-speeding by vehicles. The state police's traffic branch has purchased 39 such high-tech guns at a cost of Rs 3.9 crore, an official release said.

Five of these US-made devices will be given to the Ahmedabad city police, and every district police force will also be provided one of these guns in the coming days, the release said, quoting state traffic branch superintendent of police Bhagirathsinh Jadeja.

The gun uses laser technology to detect the speed of a vehicle. It can record speed of three vehicles simultaneously in a second, even if the vehicles are a km away, Jadeja said.

4. Two Pak Nationals Held, Boat Seized in Creek Area of Kutch

Two Pakistani nationals were apprehended in Harami Nala creek area along the Indo-Pak border in Gujarat's Kutch district on Thursday, 30 May. The Border Security Force (BSF) also seized their fishing boat, an official said.

The two intruders were being investigated, the BSF official added. On 20 May, two Pakistani nationals had been nabbed for illegal entry into the country in the nearby Sir Creek area.

Meanwhile, Kutch West police have stepped up search in the creek area after three packets of narcotic drugs, worth Rs 15 crore in illicit markets, were found near an island Wednesday.

The packets, weighing one kg each, had washed ashore during a high tide.

According to police, Pakistani drug peddlers had dumped as many as 137 packets of drugs into the sea when the Indian Coast Guard intercepted their boat off the Kutch coast on 21 May.

5. Gujarat High Court Seeks CBI's Response on Dpil Promoter's Bail Plea

The Gujarat High Court, on Thursday, 30 May, sought a reply from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a bail plea filed by Diamond Power Infrastructure Limited's (DPIL) promoter Amit Bhatnagar.

Amit is behind bars in connection with the Rs 2,654 crore bank fraud case being probed by the agency. The single-judge bench of Justice Sangeeta Vishen issued a notice to CBI directing it to file its reply in the case by 6 June.

Amit has sought a temporary bail for four-weeks on the ground that he needs to decide the legal recourse against the Rs 10 crore penalty levied by CGST and Central Excise Commissioner, Vadodara. The penalty was levied on him a few weeks back for wrongly availing CENVAT credit in contravention of norms.
