1. Man Held With a Knife in Shoes at Airport
A 21-year-old man was arrested by police on for allegedly concealing a knife in his shoes at Sardar Vallabhbahi domestic on Thursday afternoon (8 August).
The accused has been identified as Minazul Siddique Ali Rehman was arrested by the CISF jawan while he was about to board a flight to Guwahati. Primary investigation revealed that Minazul was working in a textile factory located in Surat and a native of Dhubri district of Assam.
On Wednesday afternoon at around 1.35pm, during the security check, Uttam Goswami, a sub-inspector executive of CISF stopped Minazul after they found something suspicious hidden inside his right shoe.
While checking the shoes, officials recovered a knife from the shoe and he was nabbed on the spot. Regarding the matter, Aiport police were informed he was handover to them for further investigation.

2. Drug Addict Makes Hoax Bomb Call to Teach Cops a Lesson, Arrested
On Thursday night (8 August) the Railway police arrested a drug addict from NID area of the city, for making a hoax bomb claim at Kalupur Railway station of Ahmedabad.
Identified as Mirasi Faruk (32), the accused is a resident of Chandola Talav area and is a Quwaali singer by profession. During the interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that in the evening he was checked by the local police.To teach police a lesson Faruk called the Ahmedabad Control room and told that somebody has planted a bomb at the Kalupur railway station.
Soon after the Ahmedabad Police control received the call at 6.30 pm, teams of Ahmedabad Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad(BDDS), dog squad and Railway Protection Force(RPF) were rushed to Kalupur station.

3. Senior Doctor Says ‘Won’t Treat Gujarati People’, Sent on Leave
The medical superintendent of Government hospital at Billimora taluka in Navsari district has been asked to go on leave for five days after an inquiry proved that she refused to treat local patients saying she would only treat patients from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Dr Smita Tiwari who was appointed medical superintendent at Meghushi hospital in March this year also allegedly insulted the Billimora Nagar Palika BJP president and other members when they went to the hospital to discuss about the issue.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening, (7 August) in Meghushi government hospital in Billimora when a woman, Veenaben Rushi, was standing in queue outside the room of Tiwari, who is a paediatrician, with the case papers of her 10-year-old son who was suffering from fever. Veenaben said there were at least 50 women waiting with their children.

4. 21 Booked for Assault on ‘Former Gang Member’
The Karjan police on Thursday, 8 August, booked 21 people for attacking and grievously injuring a 25-year-old man for allegedly giving the police a tip-off regarding a gambling den. The victim and complainant, Nilesh Vasava, is now being treated at SSG hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.
The police have booked all 21 accused under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint.), 143 (Member of an unlawful assembly), 144 (Joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon), 147 (Joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon) and 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon).
Police said that men armed with deadly weapons went to Nilesh’s house near Koliyad Mahakali temple in Koliyad village of Karjan late Wednesday night. They allegedly pulled him out of the house and thrashed him for informing the police about the gambling den. When the police raided the gambling den on Tuesday, they arrested three persons, including the father of the prime accused in the attack on Nilesh. He has been identified as Anil Vasava, a resident of Dabhoi taluka of Vadodara.

5. Encroachments Led to Flooding in Surat and Bharuch, Says Memo Sent to Gujarat CM
The recent floods in Olpad taluka in Surat and Hansot in Bharuch are the result of encroachments by salt pan owners and shrimp farm owners on the banks of the Kim river in the two districts and the Sena creek in Surat, a memorandum sent to the chief minister says.
Demanding that these encroachments be removed, President of The Brackish Water Research Centre, an Environment and Ecology NGO in Surat, MSH Shaikh on Thursday said he had written to the state government. He said the encroachments were preventing the rainwater from draining into the sea, thereby resulting in waterlogging.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Shaikh said, “The recent floods in Olpad and Hansot are man-made. Earlier when both talukas received heavy rainfall, there was no flood.” Now, the encroachments had forced the river and creek into bottlenecks, which prevented excess water from draining into the sea, he explained.
