1. ‘Some People Using Tongue Loosely’: Governor Hits Back at Mamata
Hitting back at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remark that some people have become mouthpiece of the BJP, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday said some people are using their tongue too often and very loosely.
“Some people are using their tongue too often and very loosely. There is no need to play every ball in the game of cricket. I would continue to serve the people of the state,” Dhankhar told reporters.
Taking a veiled dig at Dhankar, Banerjee on Thursday said, “There are some people who are behaving just like a BJP mouthpiece. They want to run a parallel administration. Central government is an elected body and the state government is also an elected body. Federal structure must work as per our Constitution. It should be allowed to work. The central government works as per constitutional provisions and the state government must work in a similar manner,” Banerjee said.

2. Delhi Scans Bulbul Losses
Two central teams visited Bulbul-hit areas of North and South 24-Parganas on Friday to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Bulbul last week.
“The state will send a report on the damage. But the report of the central teams will be very important. Central assistance to rebuild the affected areas will primarily depend on what the teams suggest,” said a senior state official.
The team that visited North 24-Parganas first conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas like Hingalganj before landing at Basirhat where the officials held a discussion with sub-divisional officer Vivek Dattaraya Bhasme and others.

3. Calcutta HC Defers TBM Order
The high court on Friday deferred to Monday the verdict on whether the second tunnel boring machine of East-West Metro can be moved five metres under Bowbazar to facilitate maintenance.
The court had asked a four-member technical committee to submit a report on whether it was safe to move the tunnel boring machine (TBM) that is lying under Nirmal Chunder Street, a few metres from the first machine that had collapsed on August 31.
The experts in their report advised moving the machine, burrowing the east-bound tunnel, for up to five metres for maintenance.

4. Survivor Plans to Move Calcutta HC
A woman from Barasat, North 24-Parganas, who was trafficked to Pune at 13 by an acquaintance she called “kakima” (aunt) has received Rs 6 lakh as compensation from the Bengal government.
The woman, now 24, had challenged the Rs 1.5 lakh which the district legal services authority awarded her early last year.
On September 30, the state legal services authority passed an order, increasing the amount to Rs 6 lakh. The verification and other formalities were completed last month.

5. Tolstoy Death Mask at Varsity Museum
A death mask of Leo Tolstoy was added to the memorabilia at the Rabindra Bhavana Museum in Santiniketan this week.
Officials at Visva-Bharati said the death mask — cast in plaster from corpses for posterity — had been in their possession for years. It was showcased last week ahead of a visit by President Ram Nath Kovind on November 11. The item was gifted to Rabindranath Tagore during a tour of the USSR in 1930. “We kept this special item for the President’s visit. We are confident it will add to the unique items in the museum,” said Rabindra Bhavana special officer Nilanjan Banerjee.
Although Tagore (1861-1941) never met Tolstoy (1828-1910), sources at Visva-Bharati said he was an admirer of the Russian litterateur’s work and owned several of his books.
