1. Cop Poser On Shami Route

Calcutta police have written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking details of cricketer Mohammad Shami's route to and from South Africa, where he had played a series as part of Team India earlier this year.

The police have also seized the mobile phone which wife Hasin Jahan claimed was Shami's and which she was carrying when he accused him of adultery at a news conference.

"We have written to the BCCI for the detailed itinerary of Mohammad Shami during the South Africa tour," joint commissioner, crime, Praveen Tripathi said on Monday.

Allegations have surfaced that Shami had taken a detour through Dubai while returning to India. Investigators said they were yet to verify whether Shami was the only Indian player to take a detour through Dubai. If yes, they will like to know who funded the trip.

The first language paper of the Madhyamik examination did not go too well for Hindi candidates. They said to have had missed out on as many as 10 marks over “out-of-syllabus” questions.

President of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education(WBBSE) Kalyanmoy Ganguly said he has received complaints and the same have been sent to the examination committee that shall examine the paper and make recommendations accordingly. “We have heard that one question with two segments were outside the prescribed syllabus. The segments were worth five marks each.

The committee will let us know after their evaluation and then we shall take a call,” Ganguly said.

3. Call From Mamata Banerjee Puts Mayor At Ease, For Now

A call from CM Mamata Banerjee to Sovan Chatterjee on Monday may have come as a breather for the city’s beleaguered mayor, who has been the subject of intense speculation since his security was scaled down without any notice last week.
Those privy to Monday’s developments said Banerjee asked the mayor to discharge his responsibilities. “I am the mayor and am not putting in my papers,” Chatterjee told his closest confidants after the call.

“I will continue in this post till the party tells me to do otherwise,” he added. The KMC Act of 1980 says a mayor can be removed if a majority of councillors pass a no-confidence motion. So, Monday’s phone call may indicate that the party may not be looking to replace Chatterjee for now.

4. TMC Youth Leader Murdered In Clash

The local vice-president of Trinamool Youth Congress (TYC), Manu Pramanik (43), was killed during a clash between two intra-party rival groups at Bamanghata in Bhangar on Sunday noon.
Manu’s eldest daughter, Susmita, might not write her Madhyamik paper on Monday as the family members are awaiting completion of autopsy to cremate the body.

TYC’s Bamanghata unit president Nitya Gopal Mondal alleged the group led by former Trinamool MLA Arabul Islam was responsible for Manu’s murder. State horticulture minister Rezzak Mollah, also a local MLA, said he’ll ask the cops to conduct proper probe.

Astate-owned wetland at Bokdoba in Bhangar was being covered up with tin by some Trinamool supporters. When Pramanik went to the spot, a clash ensued and he was allegedly shot at and beaten up with rods. He was taken to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Locals said the Trinamool leaders’ plan to sell the wetland had created trouble for quite some time.

5. Kolkata To Get Nodal Body For Transplants

The city will finally get a centre for coordinating organ transplants, which is crucial for optimising opportunities when the family of a brain-dead patient agrees to donate the organs.

The Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) and the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), nodal agencies for coordinating organ transplants in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, res-pectively, have been pivotal in the success of the organ donation movement in the two states. The organ transplant and coordination centre here will play the same role in Bengal and fill this gap.

Funds for the facility were made available by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) two years ago but were lying idle with the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) till now because of the absence of a clear mandate to the official leading the latter. But that has changed. “The organ transplant coordination centre will be up and running in the next two-three months,” ROTTO head Arpita Ray Chaudhury told TOI.

The East-West Metro project couldn't have had realistic deadlines without the cooperation of the Bengal government, Union minister Babul Supriyo said on Monday.

The KMRC is the implementing agency of the project that will connect Salt Lake's Sector V with Howrah Maidan.
