Kolkata witnessed a damp and quiet Diwali, yet 730 people were arrested for disorderly conduct, including playing music on loudspeakers beyond the stipulated hours and bursting loud crackers, as Indian Express reported.
While 405 were arrested for disorderly conduct, 325 people were arrested for bursting banned crackers. Three hundred and sixty two kgs of firecrackers and 51 litres of illegal alcohol were also recovered.Police Officer
Till the wee hours of Friday, 125 complaints were received by the police.
While 117 complaints alleged that firecrackers were producing sound beyond the permissible limit, eight complaints were received for disorderly conduct… We took action in all cases
Most arrests were made from the northern parts of the city.
