Two years ago, in December, three members of a family met with an accident and died near Aliyan's Bakery owned by Anwar and Nisam in Adoor, Pathanamthitta in Kerala.

Recounting the incident, Anwar said, “When we saw the footage captured by the CCTV camera at our shop, we realised that the three members, including a child, were left on the road, without help for 15 minutes. We felt helpless. But we decided to do something about this,” reported The News Minute.

Two days later, Anwar and Nisam came across a second-hand ambulance in Malappuram which was up for sale online. It required repairing and cost them around Rs 3 lakh.

Although they are not financially sound, still they wanted to do their bit by saving lives. Nisam told The News Minute that they run a small, two-room bakery. They had to borrow money from their friends, and it had reached to a point where they sold off some gold ornaments to buy the ambulance.

They offer help to anybody who is in need and not just accident victims.

When a woman passenger collapsed in a bus, Anwar and Nisam rushed her to the hospital amid heavy traffic on the road.

Anwar said that as the streets have been crowded because of the festival, it would have been difficult for a bus to make the vehicles clear the way. With the help of a few volunteers, they took her to a government Taluk hospital in Kayamkulam.

Anwar clarified why they do what they do. He said that they did not start the free ambulance service for any selfish benefits, but as a service to the society.
