Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi today announced a five-phase assembly election in Bihar beginning October 12. The results would be declared on November 8.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav today welcomed the announcement of the assembly election schedule for Bihar and said they were “well prepared”.

It is good that a five-phase election schedule has been announced [...] We were waiting for the date.
— Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar

He said his government has been in the election mode and was following the model code of conduct since September 6.

Now except for urgent official work, no work other than those related to the elections would be done, in view of coming into being of model code of conduct.
— Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar

The secular alliance comprising JD(U), RJD and Congress is prepared for elections in all the 243 seats, Kumar added.

The Election Commission, in a statement, added that exit polls will be prohibited from the very first day of the five-stage Bihar assembly elections till the last day.

As per the law, the exit poll will be prohibited from the first day of poll of the first phase till half an hour after the appointed time of last polling day. This applies to both print and TV media.

RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav too welcomed the announcement of poll dates in Bihar. Yadav said it would have been better if the election was conducted on a single day instead of prolonging it for five days.

This is not an election for Bihar only, but of the country.
— Lalu Prasad Yadav, RJD Chief

Expressing confidence about the secular alliance’s performance, he said the election would send BJP packing.

The severe drubbing that BJP is sure to receive in Bihar elections would start the reverse counting for the saffron party [...] BJP is only a mask. The actual force is RSS which recently boxed the ears of BJP government and took accounts of its performance.
