On Monday morning, gunfire erupted again in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Monday’s gunfight also started from the site of Sunday’s firing – an under-construction mini secretariat building in Poonch town.

The militants are reportedly still holed up in a building, and security forces are using drones to ascertain their exact location inside the building. One terrorist has reportedly been killed.

The Kashmir valley saw a whole day of extended violence on Sunday when an encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out in Poonch district.

The encounter lasted the entire day and ended with the killing of three militants.

A policeman, identified as R Kumar, was killed as well, and five others – a police official, a civilian and three policemen were injured.

An elderly couple held hostage by the militants was later rescued by security forces.

The militants started firing from the under-construction mini secretariat building near the Army’s 93 Brigade headquarters in Poonch town around 8 am.

In another clash between security forces and terrorists near the LoC in the Nogwam sector in Handwara, three foreigner terrorists were killed. Four weapons were recovered from them.

Two more infiltration bids were foiled in Tangdhar and Gurez sectors along the LoC in Kashmir.
