1. Unnao Rape Case: UP Govt to File FIR Against BJP MLA

The UP government on Wednesday decided to lodge an FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection with the alleged rape of an Unnao girl and refer it for a probe by the CBI. The government also decided to recommend a CBI probe into the alleged murder of the rape survivor’s father in judicial custody.

The government decision for a CBI probe came just after Sengar made an appearance at the official residence of Lucknow police chief to announce that he had no role in the rape of the teenager and death of her father.

The government also announced suspension of two senior doctors of Unnao district hospital. It also announced disciplinary action against three other doctors of the jail department for dereliction of duty and negligence in attending to the rape survivor’s father, who died on Tuesday. An officer of the rank of DSP has been suspended for not attending to the repeated complaints of the rape survivor and her family.


2. Body of Pregnant Woman Found in Suitcase Off NH-24

The body of a pregnant woman whose husband had lodged a missing complaint a few days ago was found stuffed in a suitcase along NH-24 in Indirapuram on Wednesday.

The woman’s husband, Shivam, a salesperson at a garments showroom in DLF Mall, has been detained on a complaint by the woman’s father, who accused him of killing her for not bringing along enough dowry.

The woman’s father, Ram Avtar, said her in-laws had demanded Rs 5 lakh more as dowry, unhappy with what he had given them during the wedding. “Mala’s in-laws had abused her in the past over dowry. After Shivam called us to inform Mala was missing, we had launched a search in the neighborhood but could not find her,” he said.

Police have not only detained Shivam but also filed a case against his parents and two brothers under Sections 498A (cruelty), 304B (dowry death), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 316 (causing death of unborn child) of the IPC and Sections 3&4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

3. Online Lottery Racket Busted in Mumbai

Police busted an online lottery racket in Malwani and arrested six people, including the owner and conductor of the lottery centre on Tuesday.

Police said the lottery centre was misusing its licence. Shop owner Shakil Sayyed and conductor Ali Nawaz Mirza scribbled the number selected by a customer on a paper.


4. Man Threatens to Throw Acid at Girl, Arrested

A 28-year-old man, Vinayak Gawli, was recently arrested from Tunga village for threatening to throw acid on a college girl's face if she did not agree to marry him.

The accused, who is unemployed, was on the run after the collegian lodged a complaint on 13 March.

"He was found on 7 April from Saki Vihar Road and has been sent to judicial custody," said an officer. The collegian and the accused have known each other since 2016.

5. College Professor Found Dead at Andheri Home

A college professor was found dead in her home in Andheri on Wednesday. Her last contact was a phone conversation with her brother a week ago, the police said. Manisha Bhave, 52, was found lying on the floor of her bedroom in her third floor flat in Andheri East at 11:30 am. The police said her decomposed body was taken to Cooper Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.


6. Ashwini Bidre Case: Search for Missing Mumbai Cops' Remains Called Off Again

The search for the remains of missing assistant inspector Ashwini Bidre has been called off once again, police said. According to senior officers, the high-grade equipment failed to find the iron boxes which allegedly contained the dismembered body of the officer missing since 2016.

The Navi Mumbai crime branch had restarted the search operation at the Vasai Creek, where the accused, inspector Abhay Kurundkar had allegedly disposed of the body. “Temporarily the search has been called off. We haven’t found anything conclusive,” said DCP crime Tushar Doshi.

7. 21-Yr-Old Held for Attacking Woman With a Blade in Delhi

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on allegations of assaulting a woman with a blade, in outer Delhi’s Nangloi, police said. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Asim, a resident of a JJ camp in Nangloi. “He was picked up by police after a PCR call was made to Nangloi police station around 3:42 pm. He has been arrested under sections 354, 324, 509 and 34 of the IPC,” said DCP (Outer) MN Tiwari.


8. Gurugram Police Catch 19-Year-Old Criminal Who Escaped Thrice From Rajasthan Detention Centre

He is a proclaimed offender, has escaped thrice from a detention centre in Rajasthan’s Alwar, did not stay in touch with anyone from his family for four years to avoid getting caught and he is 19 years old.

The elusive criminal, Gajender alias Gajju, was caught by the Gurugram police’s anti-snatching team on 7 April after a sustained investigation and raids at his numerous hideouts in Bhiwadi.

9. Teen Shoots Brother-In-Law, Tries to Kill Sister in Delhi

An 18-year-old student on Sunday shot and killed his brother-in-law at a private coaching centre in north-east Delhi because he was angry that the man had married his sister, police said.

The Class 12 student, Mohammad Akram, also allegedly tried to shoot his 19-year-old sister, but his friend snatched the pistol before he could pull the trigger. Akram tried to pin the blame for the murder on his sister, but fled and went into hiding after he realised there were eyewitnesses who could identify him as the killer.
