1. Two Arrested for Chatting About Killing Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Two persons were arrested on Monday after a WhatsApp exchange on a plan to allegedly kill Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while they were apparently drunk, police said as the minister paid a visit to Dharchula town in this district of Uttarakhand.

The police were alerted to the message at 9:30 pm on Sunday.

The two have been booked under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, Pithoragarh SP Ramchandra Rajguru said.

“We were alerted to the chat (about killing the defence minister) on a WhatsApp group at 9.30 pm on Sunday. We identified two persons between whom the chat was taking place and arrested them Monday morning ahead of the defence minister’s arrival here,” he said.

The controversial message sent by one of the arrested duo reads as, “Main shoot karunga Sitharaman ko, kal uska akhiri din hoga. (‘I will shoot Sitharaman, tomorrow will be her last day’), police said.

2. Boy Detained for Allegedly Killing Man Who Sought ‘Sexual Pleasure’ From Him

The Pune Rural Police detained a boy for allegedly murdering a 48-year-old man who reportedly sought sexual pleasures from him.

The deceased, Bapu Rama Keskar, is a resident of Koregaon Mul in Haveli taluka. He was found murdered on forest land in Koregaon Mul on Sunday. An offence of murder was then lodged at the Loni Kalbhor police station.

The local crime branch of the Pune Rural Police started a probe in the case and caught the boy within 24 hours of the incident taking place. A press release issued by the police on Monday said Keskar happened to meet the teenager while working at a construction site.

3. Soldier Killed by Terrorists in Kashmir Was Home After Son’s Death

A territorial Army soldier, who had returned to his home in south Kashmir's Kulgam district for the last rites of his son, was shot dead by terrorists on Monday. The gunmen barged into his home at Shurat village and shot him from point blank range.

"Shoot me if you want to, but don’t ask me questions," those present at the scene quoted Lance Naik Malik as having told the terrorists, according to news agency PTI.

Officials say Lance Naik Mukhtar Ahmad Malik was a commander of a disbanded counter-insurgency group before he was recruited in the territorial Army.

4. Dalit Girl Dies Hours After ‘Sexual Assault’; Police Suspect She Had Poison

A 13-year-old Dalit girl died at the district hospital in Bulandshahr hours after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a youth on Sunday. Police suspect she consumed poison after the alleged assault. The 21-year-old youth has been arrested.  While the autopsy report did not confirm cause of death, the viscera was preserved for testing.

“The incident occurred at around 3 am when, as per the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the accused came to the victim’s house and called her to come outside. When the girl came out, the youth took her to his house around 300 metres away and sexually assaulted her. At around 5 am, the youth asked his aunt to drop the girl to her house. The girl informed her parents about the assault and her mother then filed a complaint,” said Yogendra Singh, station house officer of the local police station. He also claimed that the girl and the accused had known each other for some time.

5. Man Arrested for Raping Daughter in Gautam Buddh Nagar

A man was arrested Monday for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter in Dadri area of Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The 40-year-old accused was arrested following a complaint by his wife at the Dadri police station on Sunday.

According to police, the couple had a troubled marriage and both of them often fought with each other over domestic issues.

“On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the man took his daughter outside home while the mother was asleep. After reaching some distance, he raped her at an isolated spot,” a police official said.

6. CBI Writes to Facebook Over Data Theft

The CBI has written to Facebook, Cambridge Analytica and Global Science Research (GSR) in connection with its investigation into the alleged illegal data harvesting of Indians from the social networking platform.

Sources in the central probe agency said the CBI has sought the details of data collection exercise adapted by them. After reference from the Centre, the investigative agency had registered a preliminary enquiry against Cambridge Analytica and Global Science Research last month over the alleged data theft.

7. Class XI Student Stabbed to Death Outside School, Junior Student Arrested for Revenge Crime

To avenge a slap, a student of Class IX of a government school allegedly got his schoolmate stabbed to death with the help of 15 to 20 youths right outside his school in Sector 7 on Monday. The student, a juvenile, has been arrested by Panchkula police.

17-year-old Vikas Kumar, a student of Class XI at Government Senior Secondary School Sector 7, had just stepped out after the school got over when he was attacked by the youths. When Suraj, a student of Class X, tried to rescue Vikas, the youths hit him as well on the hand. Vikas was rushed to Civil Hospital Sector 6 by classmates and school teachers, where he was declared brought dead while Suraj was given first aid. Vikas was a resident of Rally village in Sector 12 A, Panchkula.

8. Odisha Girl Gangraped Over 28 Days, Thrown Into River

A girl of Odisha’s Jajpur district was allegedly kidnapped by a group of men and gang-raped for 28 days inside a house. The ordeal of the victim didn’t end there as she was on Sunday evening thrown into Kharasrota river. The girl managed to swim ashore and reached Routraypur village under Kuakhia police limits in the district, after which she narrated the entire episode before the villagers.

According to the victim, she was abducted by some miscreants on 20 August while she had gone to Madhuban Bazaar to by some stationary items. The kidnappers later confined her inside a house located at a secluded place and gang-raped her, she alleged. On Sunday night, the wrongdoers threw her into Kharasrota river in a bid to kill her.

9. Gang Involved in ‘Sale’ of Newborn Babies Busted, 4 Held

The Ludhiana Rural police have busted an inter-state gang of child traffickers who allegedly used to buy and sell newborn babies in states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Four accused, including the kingpin Labh Singh have been arrested, while one woman is still absconding. The five accused include four women.

Police said that the gang used to ‘buy’ newborn babies from poor couples like labourers, daily wagers and sell them to childless couples and other needy families who used to pay them hefty amounts.

10. Odisha Doctor and Servant Kill Man in Clinic, Chop Body Into Pieces

A senior doctor of sub-divisional hospital, Chhatrapur, and one of his servants were arrested Monday on charge of killing a 45-year old man and chopping his body parts, police said.

Hrusikesh Tripathy, 55, surgery specialist and owner of a private clinic near New Bus-stand here and his servant Bidhan Sethi, 35, were arrested for killing Bishnu Prasad Gouda of Bania village. Gouda was killed on 19 August at the doctor’s clinic, they said.

Police said the doctor was nabbed at Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Earlier, police had arrested Ganga Behera, 50, another servant of the doctor in this murder case.
