QCrime: SIT To Probe Palwal Murder; Minor Held For Stealing Gun
1. Minor Boy Nabbed for Stealing Revolver
A minor boy was nabbed by sleuths of Task Force on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a licensed weapon from a parked car in Masab Tank few days ago.
Task Force sleuths during a press conference said that from the minor boy .22 revolver and six rounds of live rounds were recovered from his residence in Mehdipatnam. On 24 December, a vernacular channel scribe Mohammed Noman Omer approached Saifabad police and lodged a complaint informing that his licensed revolver which was kept in the dashboard of his Duster car, went missing.
Omer told police that on the day of the offence, he and his friend first went to Park Hotel and later reached Masab Tank bus stop to have dinner. They parked the car, without locking the door, and left the place. By the time they returned and got into the car and started to move, they realised that the weapon went missing.
2. SIT to Probe Palwal Killings, Rs 3 Lakh Compensation Announced
The Haryana government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the circumstances under which a government official murdered six people in Palwal on Tuesday.
The accused, Naresh Dhankar, a sub-divisional officer (SDO) with the Haryana government’s agricultural department in Bhiwani, had bludgeoned six people to death with an iron rod in a two-hour-long mayhem in the early hours of Tuesday in Palwal. Dhankar had taken voluntary retirement from the Army as a lieutenant in 2003.
The decision to form a SIT was taken after family members of the six victims staged demonstrations on Wednesday and demanded monetary compensation and jobs. The government later announced Rs 3 lakh each for the kin of the murdered victims.
A tense atmosphere prevailed in Palwal throughout Wednesday even as police heightened security arrangements in the town.

3. Seefund MD Mahesh Murthy Booked For Sexual Harassment
The Mumbai Police registered a case against angel investor and managing partner of Seedfund, Mahesh Murthy, on 29 December after it received a complaint from a woman alleging sexual harassment.
On 17 November 2016, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Maharashtra, regarding the “usage of objectionable, derogatory, sexual remarks and obscene signs on social media” allegedly by Murthy, based on a complaint filed by a woman in Delhi.
The NCW had also pointed to various media reports where many other women had alleged similar complaints against Murthy. In a press statement, the NCW said it requested the DGP’s “personal involvement to investigate the matter and take strict action as per law and procedure” against Murthy, even though he had apologised for some of his posts.
4. Ryan School Murder Accused to Be in Judicial Custody for Another Fortnight
The 16-year-old accused of killing Pradyuman Thakur inside the ground floor bathroom of Ryan International School, Bhondsi, in September, was produced before a special children’s court in Gurgaon on Wednesday morning, and remanded in judicial custody for another fortnight.
Confirming this, Sushil Tekriwal, counsel for Barun Thakur, Pradyuman’s father, said, “The accused was produced in court on Wednesday since his two weeks remand had come to an end. He has been remanded in judicial custody for another two weeks and will now be produced in court on 17 January.
He will continue to be lodged at the observation home in Faridabad during this period.”
5. Court Acquits Man of Raping Woman, Says They Were Living In
A Delhi court has acquitted a man of the charge of raping a woman after intoxicating her, saying they were in a live-in relationship and the physical relation between them was consensual.
Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Kumar II absolved the man, who was accused of raping the woman on the false promise of marriage, noting that she was married already so there was no question of being misled by the accused.
"As per the prosecutrix (woman), she had not taken divorce from her husband and her marriage with him was still persistent, hence, there is no question of her being misled by accused on false promise of marriage. More so from her testimony, it is crystal clear that prosecutrix and accused were in a live-in relationship," the judge said.
According to the prosecution, an FIR was lodged on 1 January, under sections 328 and 376 of the IPC against accused Sita Ram Sharma on the complaint of a woman alleging that on the night of 31 December 2014, he made her consume a sedative laced coffee after which she became unconscious, and then taking advantage of her condition, he raped her.
6. Father Who Branded His 8-Year-Old Daughter for Wetting the Bed Taken into Custody
A day after the issue of a father branding his daughter with a hot rod in Tukramgate came to light; the father disclosed to police that he resorted to such violent action since his eight-year-old daughter was wetting the bed whenever she sleeps.
Tukaramgate police said that the the accused P Raju, a car driver, was taken into custody on Wednesday and police were in the process of granting bail by taking the requisite sureties. On Tuesday, based on the complaint given by Balalahakula Sangam, a case was registered under 324 of IPC and 75 of Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
"The girl suffered burn injuries at various locations of her body and it happened after a hot rod was used. The reason for injuring the girl is to create fear in the girl, as she was wetting the bed. The arrest of Raju is being done and he will be given station bail,'' Tukaramgate police said.
7. Gang Steals Valuables From BMW
A Mumbai-based film producer was robbed of his laptop, Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and iPhone after thieves broke into his BMW parked near Gole Market in Lutyens' Delhi. Cops are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the miscreants.
The producer, Kunal Sharma, told police that he had gone to the market with his friend Mrityunjay to meet someone. He parked the car near Bhagat Singh Place. When they returned after an hour, they found the right rear window smashed and the bags containing the cash and laptop missing. Mrityunjay then called the PCR. Police suspect the thieves used a crowbar to break into the car.
One of the bags had Sharma's ID, ATM and membership cards of five-star hotels, shoes, keys, cheque book, driving licence, iPhone and Rs 1.5 lakh. The other bag contained some clothes.
"A case has been registered at Mandir Marg police station. We are trying to get clues to nab the culprits," said additional CP (New Delhi) B K Singh.
8. Man Arrested for Kidnapping, Raping Noida Girl
A man, who was arrested for kidnapping a class 12 student from Dadri area of Noida and raping her, has been sent to 14 days in judicial custody by a city court, police said.
The convict, Anuj, had kidnapped the girl last month after which her parents approached the police and a case was filed, a police official said.
The police traced Anuj through electronic surveillance and other informations, and he was arrested from Amabala in Haryana, Station House Officer of Dadri police station Ram Sen Singh said. The SHO claimed that Anuj had confessed to kidnapping and raping the minor several times in captivity.
The victim girl has been handed over to her parents. She was also sent for medical examination, the policeman said.
9. Sherin Mathews Died of Homicidal Violence
More than two months since the body of three-year-old Sherin Mathews was recovered from a culvert not far from her house in Texas, United States, the autopsy report has revealed that the Indian-American girl died of homicidal violence.
According to multiple US media reports, the autopsy report of Sherin who was adopted in 2016 by Keralite couple Wesley Mathews and Sini Mathews, reveals the manner of her death, but not the cause of her death.
An official from the Richardson police department reportedly confirmed to media house WFAA that Sherin had died due to homicidal violence. The cause of the death could not be ascertained since the child's body was extensively decomposed, says the report.
The Dallas County District Attorney's Office released the autopsy report to the attorneys of both Wesley and Sini, who have been in jail for charges of causing felony injury to the child, and abandoning/endangering the child, respectively.
