1. Principal Held for Rape of Tribal Girls

At least eight students of a government-funded residential school at Sangli district in Maharashtra were allegedly raped and sexually abused for the last six months by the principal, who was arrested on Wednesday, 26 September, along with a woman employee of the institution. Police started an investigation after a letter by an anonymous sender alerted them about the abuse in the school on Tuesday. The school houses girls belonging to nomadic tribes.

Initial investigation has revealed that five girls were raped and three more molested by the principal multiple times in the last six months. Seven of the eight victims are between 13 to 16 years old, while one of them is 19 years old, said police.

2. Man Arrested in Gurugram for Making Aadhaar Cards Illegally

A man, who allegedly issued Aadhaar cards using a machine allotted to another person, was arrested in Manesar on Wednesday, 26 September. Police said that the accused had allegedly preserved the thumb impression of a woman who had been authorised to operate the machine on a plastic sheet and used it to make the cards for which he charged money.

The accused, Vinod (26), was arrested from Manesar following a complaint from additional deputy commissioner’s (ADC) office in Gurugram, deputy commissioner of police Rajesh Kumar said. Police said the accused had been making such cards for the last three months.

3. 30-Year-Old Man Man Creates Fake Facebook Account to Harass Woman After Being Rejected

A Pune-based man was arrested on Wednesday, 26 September, for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account in the name of a 24-year-old woman and uploading her phone number on the social networking site to harass her.

The accused, Prashant Medhe, 30, is a manager at a mall in Pune. Police said he wanted to get back at the woman and her family after they refused his marriage proposal.

An officer linked to the case said that Medhe had met the woman on a matrimonial website in September last year. He later came down to Mumbai to meet the woman and her parents at their residence in the western suburbs. After a few meetings, the woman’s family members communicated to him that they were not in favour of the relationship.

4. Man Booked for Giving Triple Talaq to Wife

A man has been booked for allegedly giving 'triple talaq' to his wife, police said on Wednesday, 26 September.

According to a complaint filed by Salma with Balotra police station on Wednesday, her husband and in-laws used to torture her for dowry. She alleged that her husband pronounced 'talaq' (divorce) over the phone on 15 September.

A case was registered under relevant sections of IPC and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance, 2018 against Saleem, police said.

Salma and Saleem were married 23 years ago, they said.

5. EPF Official Gets 'Rigorous Imprisonment' for 4 Years for Graft in Chennai

The XIV additional special court for CBI cases, Chennai, sentenced an official of Employees Provident Fund organisation to rigorous imprisonment for four years for acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, acting on a complaint.

Slapping him with a fine of Rs 3 lakh, the judge ordered confiscation of his properties to the extent of disproportionate assets.

6. 30-Year-Old Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Allegedly Raping Toddler

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abducting a three-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her. The accused followed the girl and raped her at a deserted spot, where local residents found her the next morning, police said. The incident took place in Thane on 23 September.

“The child had slipped out of her house when Ganesh immersion processions were passing by. When her family started looking for her and couldn’t find her, they alerted the neighbours and the police,” said an officer.

The girl was found in a deserted area the next day. “Some local residents heard a child crying and when they went to check, they found that the man was trying to force himself on the girl,” the officer said. The accused has been identified as Vinod Kaivat.

7. Hyderabad Police Arrest Five in Cheating Case

Hyderabad Police has arrested five people across the state for allegedly running a fake call centre and duping people to the tune of crores of rupees, sources said.

Police said the accused — identified as Debashish Mukherjee, Faij-ul-Haq, Anitha Dey, Sandeep Mitra and Neetha Shankar — used to cheat people in the name of providing escort services. Mukherjee, the “mastermind” of the racket, was the first to be arrested, said sources, adding all the arrests were made over the last few days.

The racket came to light when a man lodged a complaint in Hyderabad, on behalf of a group of people, saying they were duped of Rs 15.2 lakh. Sources said the accused had 20 branches (call centres) out of which 12 were operated from Siliguri and rest were located in Kolkata, offering girls for dating and escorts.

8. 4 Held as Noida Police Busts Illegal Liquor Factory in Ghaziabad; 3 Cops Suspended

In a major haul, the Noida Police busted an illegal liquor factory running in adjoining Ghaziabad and arrested four persons Wednesday, seizing 15,000 litre of illicit liquor estimated worth Rs 50 lakh, officials said.

The factory was being run in Tronica City in the Sector 2 of Ghaziabad's Loni area under the garb of being of a "juice manufacturing unit", the police said.

Ghaziabad police chief Vaibhav Krishna said he has suspended an SHO, a police post in-charge, and a beat constable of the Tronica City police station for alleged dereliction of duty.

Sleuths from Noida Police had raided the factory which was running in a two-storeyed building and seized around 15,000 litres of illicit liquor.

9. Man Hacked to Death Near Hyderabad Airport, Crime Caught on Video

A man was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of scores of people and policemen on the busy airport road at Attapur in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 26 September, videos of which were circulated widely on social media.

Ramesh (35), who is accused of murdering Mahesh Goud, was returning from a criminal court at Upparpalli around noon when he was chased by two persons, who were later identified as Goud’s father Kishta and his brother Laxman.

Kishta pounced on Ramesh at pillar number 143 of the P V Narasimha Rao Expressway and started hacking him with an axe as Laxman threatened onlookers against stopping the act.
