1. Nagpur Journalist’s Mother, Child Murdered; One Arrested

The Nagpur police on Sunday, 18 February, said that it had solved the killing of the mother and daughter of a journalist, 12 hours after the crime was committed.

Usha Kamble (50) and one-year-old Risha were killed on Saturday evening. Their bodies were put in a gunny bag and thrown into a nullah at Bhadura in Dighori at around 11 in the night, police said.

Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodkhe told PTI that Ganesh Rambaran Shahu (26), a resident of Pawanputra Nagar area, was arrested, adding that the victim and Shahu had fought over chit fund money on Saturday evening at the latter's house.

In the course of the altercation, the woman fell from the stairs, after which Shahu slit her throat, Bodkhe said.

2. Noida Cop Arrested For Attempting to Rape Six-Year-Old

A 48-year-old police constable was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to rape a six-year-old girl inside a police outpost in Greater Noida, officials said.

The accused, identified only by his first name Narendra, was said to be in uniform and heavily inebriated when he tried to assault the girl inside the Kulesara police chowki on Saturday morning, 17 February.

Hundreds of angry people from Kulesara village — where the family of the minor resides — gathered outside the police chowki demanding the accused’s arrest.

3. Six-Year-Old Killed in a Tantrik Ritual in Kasganj

A six-year-old boy, missing for two days, was found murdered in an area under Sahawar police jurisdiction of Kasganj district on Sunday. Police have said the circumstances under which the body was found indicate he had been sacrificed in a tantric ritual.

The boy, Pawan, was a son of Anil, a farmer from Gisukhpur village under Baghwala police jurisdiction of Etah district. The family had come to attend a wedding on Thursday night at Tajpur village under Sidhpura police jurisdiction.

Pawan’s body was found under a pipal tree at Sitakar village in Sahawar, 15km from Tajpur, on Saturday evening.

4. Arunachal Woman Molested, Beaten Up in Delhi

A 24-year-old woman from Arunachal Pradesh was allegedly molested and beaten up by a group of five-six men in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday, police said.

Police said the woman, accompanied by a male friend, was walking towards her hostel in Outram Lane around 2 am when the incident took place. The woman is pursuing her MBA in the city.

As per the complaint filed in the case, the accused allegedly passed lewd remarks at her. When she objected, the accused shoved her. When her male friend intervened, the accused allegedly slapped her and beat up the duo.

5. Two CPI(M) Workers Held For Youth Congress Worker’s Murder

Two CPI(M) workers were on Sunday arrested in connection with the recent killing of a Youth Congress leader in this district even as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the incident and assured all those involved would be brought to book soon.

Akash and Rijin Raj, both in their 30s, went to the police station at Maloor, near Mattanoor, with a few other local CPI(M) workers and surrendered to the authorities following which the duo was arrested, police said.

Shuhaib, the Mattanur block Youth Congress secretary, was at a roadside tea shop with two other party members, Riaz and Naushad, when they were attacked at Mattanoor on February 13.

6. MP Farmer Hangs Monkey to Death For Damaging Crops

An angry Madhya Pradesh farmer hanged a monkey to death as a “corporal punishment” for destroying his standing moong crops. The incident was reported from state's Betul district where the accused identified as Birju Ojha, 38 was arrested on Saturday.

He was produced before a local court which sent him to judicial custody. Divisional forest officer Rakhi Nanda told TOI accused got furious as monkeys destroyed his standing crops.

7. 94 Held For Cheating During Rajasthan Postal Exam

The Jaipur Police have arrested 94 candidates who were allegedly cheating during an exam organised by the postal department on Sunday for the recruitment of postmen and mail guards.

All the arrested accused were cheating through various methods, such as using bluetooth devices and mobile phones, police said. The accused, including three women, are residents of Haryana, police said.

“We had received inputs that mass cheating was being organised by a gang and also got information from exam centres where people were suspicious of some of the candidates. We arrested 53 such candidates from exam centres under the jurisdiction of police stations in Jaipur south district,” said Additional DCP (south) Manoj Choudhary.

8. Ghaziabad School Death: Chairman, Principal Charged

The Ghaziabad police has filed chargesheet against the chairman, principal and three others of GD Goenka Public School, Indirapuram in connection with the death of a Class IV student, Armaan Sehgal, on school premises on 1 August 2017.

The five persons who have been named as accused in the chargesheet are chairperson Ankur Malhotra, principal Kavita Sharma and three directors —Smita Malhotra, Deepak Tuteja and Joginder Dua.

“The IPC sections invoked in the chargesheet attract punishment of a maximum of two years. If police arrest any of the accused, we will get bail from the lower court,” counsel for the school, AP Singh, told TOI.

9. UP Board Exam: Class 12 Physics-II Paper ‘Leaked’

The physics-II question paper of class 12 examination of the UP Board got leaked by mistake at a centre in Bahraich, said district inspector of school (DIoS) Rajendra Kumar Pandey.

The paper scheduled to be held on Saturday, 17 February, was leaked by the mistake of centre In-charge at a centre in Imamganj under Shivpur block of the district on Thursday, he added.

Pandey further said instead of physics-I question paper, physics-II question paper was opened and distributed among the students at Jamia Rizvia Anwarul Mustafa High School, Imamganj. Pandey also said an FIR had been lodged against the Kumar in connection with the matter.
