1. Ex-Miss India Universe Shot Video of Men Beating Up Uber Driver; Assaulted: Police

Model-actor Ushoshi Sengupta was allegedly harassed, followed and assaulted by 15 unidentified men in Kolkata on Monday night while she was returning home from work in an Uber cab. Her driver too was beaten by the group. Seven people have been arrested in the case on the basis of video grabs shared by Ms Sengupta on social media and CCTV footage.

The Miss Universe contestant was returning home from a five-star hotel with a colleague at 11:40 pm when a few men on motorcycles stopped the cab and assaulted their driver.

2. Kenyan Woman Stabbed to Death at Her Home in Delhi

A Kenyan woman was found stabbed to death at her Chattarpur Extension house in South Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

The police received a call around 8:10 pm on Tuesday about stabbing of a woman near Nanda Hospital in Chatarpur Extension. The body of the woman, identified as Kenyan national Annsam, was found at an apartment, with stab wound on the chest, said Vijay Kumar, DCP (South).

3. Woman Bludgeoned to Death by Son-In-Law

A 60-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death with an iron rod on Tuesday morning allegedly by her son-in-law when she refused to tell him about the whereabouts of his wife who had left his home a day earlier after he assaulted her, the police said.

The murder took place outside a public park near the woman’s home in Rohini Sector-4. Local residents caught the attacker after they saw him assaulting his mother-in-law. They allegedly thrashed him until he fainted. He was then handed over to the police. The man, identified by his first name Rajesh, 44, was admitted to Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital. He is out of danger, the police said.

4. Sexual Harassment Case in College: Group Demands Principal’s Suspension, Members Arrested and Then Released

Close to three months after an FIR was lodged against the principal of a suburban college for his alleged involvement in a case of sexual harassment, an educational outfit on Tuesday demanded his suspension in the interests of a fair trial.

The FIR was lodged in early February citing Section 354A (1), relating to a demand or request for sexual favours.

5. 16-Year-Old Ghaziabad Boy Stabs Minor Sister for Speaking on Phone Late Night

A 16-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his 15-year-old cousin inside their house early Monday and later walked to a police station to surrender before the police. The police said the incident took place after the boy found the girl speaking to someone around 1:30 am on Monday and got infuriated.

The police said the incident took place in a locality falling under the Sihani Gate police station area in Ghaziabad. After surrendering at the Kotwali police station, the boy told the police that he had inflicted severe injuries on his sister out of anger.

6. Noida: Ex-Staffer Claims Call Centre Fraud, Beating by Cop

A formal call centre employee was allegedly assaulted and framed in a fake theft case by a sub-inspector after he resigned from the company in Noida suspecting fraud.

Sahabuddin Siddiqui (26), who worked as an IT engineer since December 2018, submitted his resignation in March this year after he got to know that the "call centre cheats Americans on the pretext of fixing malware in their system due to hacking/virus, etc."

7. Bhondsi Jail Inmate Escapes Police Custody in Civil Hospital, His Daughter Under Police Lens

A 55-year-old man, accused in a cheating and forgery case, escaped from police custody by breaking the window pane of a washroom of the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, where he was admitted for the treatment of a blood sugar-related illness, said the police on Tuesday.

The police said the inmate, identified as Haji Ayub, a native of Gujarat, was brought from Bhondsi jail to the Civil Hospital on June 15 for the treatment of blood sugar-related illness and later admitted in a ward.

8. Mumbai: Two Held With 1.3 Kg Ambergris

Two men were allegedly trying to sell 1.3 kg “whale vomit” or ambergris, produced in the digestive system of sperm whales. This species of the whale is endangered and protected under the Wildlife Act.

Police arrested the duo on Tuesday. The accused were identified as 52-year-old Rahul Tupare and Gujarat resident Lalit Vyas. According to police, this consignment was valued at Rs 1.7 crore, but the source of the product was not clear as yet.

9. Businessman Killed in Drunk-Driving Accident in Mumbai, Teenager Arrested

A 33-year-old businessman, who was heading to his Andheri home in an app-based cab, was killed on Monday, after a 19-year-old allegedly driving drunk crashed his SUV into the cab on the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Goregaon (East). The cab driver suffered internal injuries to his chest and back.

The businessman – Shaileshkumar Mishra, 33 – a resident of a housing society in Four Bungalows, is survived by his wife and seven-month-old daughter.
