1. Burari Deaths: Family Could Have Been Suffering From ‘Shared Psychotic Disorder’, Says Delhi Police

The Delhi Police team investigating the mysterious deaths of 11 members of a family in their north Delhi home recovered more hand-written notes, suggesting they may have dabbled in occult practises since 2007. According to the police, the deaths of the 11 in the Burari neighbourhood may have been a ritualistic mass suicide.

Police said the fresh handwritten notes they recovered from one of the rooms were written way back in 2007, when the patriarch of the family died. “The entire family was devastated by the death, but his youngest son Lalit Bhatia was the most affected,” an investigator said on condition of anonymity .

2. 14-Year-Old Girl Pregnant After Stepfather Rapes Her

A 14-year-old girl got pregnant after her stepfather allegedly raped her in New Delhi.

The 38-year-old man also allegedly threatened the teenager and asked her not to tell her mother about it. In 2017, the accused had molested his other stepdaughter, who was 20 years old. The man has been arrested and a case has been registered against him.

3. Israeli Man Booked for ‘Choking’ Girlfriend During Sexual Intercourse

Sixteen months after a 23-year-old woman died in a hotel room in Colaba, the Mumbai Police have booked an Israeli national for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after he “accidentally choked” his girlfriend to death during sexual intercourse. According to the police officials, the Israeli national had visited Mumbai with his girlfriend in March last year.

Initially, the Colaba police had registered the case as Accidental Death Report, but on Monday, an FIR under Section 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) under IPC was registered after the Kalina forensic laboratory submitted the report to the police.

4. FIR Against Man for Rape Threats to Priyanka Chaturvedi’s Daughter on Twitter

The Mumbai Police on Tuesday, 4 July, registered an FIR against a person who allegedly tweeted rape threats to Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi directed at her minor daughter. The person has been booked under the Information Technology Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The person, who uses the Twitter handle ‘@girishk1605’, allegedly tweeted the rape threat to Chaturvedi on Sunday. She then filed a complaint at the Goregaon police station, even as the actions of the Twitter user were widely condemned by other politicians. Chaturvedi had tagged the Mumbai Police in a reply to the man, in which she panned him for issuing rape threats, circulating fake quotes attributed to her and using a picture of Lord Ram as his display picture.

5. Jt CP: I Forgot to Tell CBI of Sheena Bora Killing Link to Number Mukerjeas Wanted Traced

Joint police commissioner (law and order) Deven Bharti denied the suggestion that Indrani and Peter Mukerjee had never contacted him to trace their relative during cross-examination by the defence in the Sheena Bora murder case on Tuesday.

The CBI has alleged that to mislead Sheena's fiance, Rahul, the accused duo requested Bharti in April 2012 to trace the location of the cellphone of a "relative". During the hearing Bharti denied developing a friendship with the Mukerjeas and said all communication was over the phone. He had earlier told the court that he knew the couple from the time they regularly visited the Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) where he was posted.

6. South Bombay Lawyer Arrested for Assaulting Pregnant Wife, Killing Unborn Child

A 30-year-old lawyer accused of assaulting his 11-week pregnant wife leading to the death of the unborn child was arrested on Tuesday, 4 July.

Colaba police made the arrest after his wife, also an advocate who practises at the Mumbai sessions court, lodged a complaint. She said her husband had been pressuring her to abort the child as the soul of a dead person had advised him to do so. She said he even threatened her with a sword.

7. Kolkata Woman Allegedly Drowns 8-Year-Old Boy in Drum, Jealousy Cited as Motive

A 19-year-old woman was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing her 8-year-old brother-in-law by drowning him in a drum full of water in Metiabruz, Kolkata. She was jealous of the attention the boy received from the rest of the family, the victim’s mother said.

Riju Das was found dead in the drum kept in a bathroom on 29 June.

8. Woman Stripped, Assaulted by Colleague for Rejecting Proposal

An employee of a private firm was arrested for allegedly stripping and assaulting his colleague on a busy road in Bengaluru after she refused to marry him.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the Chandra Layout police have arrested Arun and booked him under Sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of IPC. In her statement to the police, the woman said Arun had posted derogatory messages and videos on a group where most of the members were female employees. She said he was known for unprofessional behaviour, and would send her obscene photos and videos. “She objected to them and asked him to stop sending such posts to her,” said the police.

9. Kathua Gangrape and Murder Case: Accused Alleges Torture, Court Asks SIT Members to Respond

The Pathankot Sessions Court, which is conducting the trial in the Kathua gangrape and murder case, on Tuesday directed the members of the Special Investigation Team of J&K Crime Branch to individually respond to the application filed by an accused alleging that he was tortured by the SIT.

The accused, who claims to be a juvenile but currently is being treated as an adult, in an application on Monday told the Sessions Court that he was taken out of the Kathua District Jail on 23 June under the garb of an order passed by the court for his bone ossification test to determine his age and later beaten up by the SIT members.
