QCrime: Four Held For Possessing Cocaine; Acid Attack in Ranchi

1. Andheri West: Four Foreign Nationals Held With Cocaine Worth Rs 38 Crore

Police have arrested four foreign nationals for allegedly possessing more than 6 kg of cocaine worth Rs 38 crore in Andheri west on Saturday night, 9 February. Police said the gang had concealed the drugs inside plastic rings used to fasten curtains, which they were allegedly trying to send to South Africa.

A team led by Inspector Daya Nayak of Amboli police station laid a trap on Morya Estate Road in Lokhandwala, Andheri West, after receiving information that a large consignment of drugs would change hands there.

2. Gang of Robbers Busted in Badlapur, Four Held

Police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers that allegedly committed more than 15 robberies across Thane and Mumbai. Police said the accused were using an empty house as a safe place for their loot for over two years.

According to Badlapur police, the accused were identified as Mobil Salim Shaikh (28), Dipak Jadhaw (28), Chetan Waghere (25) and Hitesh Solanki (27).

The gang would steal jewellery and bring it to a “safe house” in Badlapur, added police. “They even spread a rumour that the house was haunted so as to keep people away from it,” said an officer privy to the investigation.

3. Voter Deletion Calls: Delhi Poll Panel Files Complaint

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office has filed a complaint with Delhi Police alleging that “misleading calls” are being made by “certain persons/entities” claiming deletion of names from electoral rolls.

In its 8 February complaint, the CEO office attached a number of written complaints received in this regard.

“Prime facie it appears the matter needs to be thoroughly investigated to ascertain the factual correctness of the allegations,” it states.

4. Gurugram Women Cops to Wear Artificial Jewellery to Trap Chain Snatchers

A day after announcing a novel plan to catch vehicle thieves by leaving cars unattended on isolated road stretches, Gurugram Police has announced another unique idea to trap snatchers. Police Commissioner KK Rao said women police officers, in mufti, wearing artificial jewellery, will be deployed on snatching prone stretches to attract the criminals and catch them.

Rao said the crime investigation agency has been directed to buy artificial gold chains and to train the women staff to play decoy and catch snatchers. As many as 200 women cops will participate in a special training programme, starting Saturday, 9 February, said police officers, privy to the plan. They also added that after completing their training, the cops will be deployed on the vulnerable stretches such as Sushant Lok-1, sector 56, Sector 5, Palam Vihar and Sector 22 from 1 March.

5. All in a Day:Two Murders, One Armed Robbery in Outer Delhi in 9 Hours

On the intervening night of Wednesday, 6 February, and Thursday, 7 February, within a span of just nine hours, two cases of murder and one of attempt to murder, for resisting a robbery, were reported from the Nangloi and Mundka areas of outer Delhi.

In the first case, a 45-year-old woman, Madhuri Jha, was stabbed to death in front of her 1-year-old daughter allegedly by her co-worker for rejecting his marriage proposal.

In the second case, a 35-year-old man was stabbed to death in front of his wife allegedly by two of his friends. The murders took place between 7 pm on Wednesday and 3 am on Thursday in Nangloi and Kavita Colony, both under the jurisdiction of the Nangloi police station.

6. School Teacher Allegedly Attacked With Acid in Ranchi

A woman sustained acid burns on her face after allegedly attacked by two persons, the police said on Sunday, 10 February.

According to police, the woman – a teacher – was on her way back to home from school in an auto rickshaw after attending Saraswati Puja function.

Two youth were following her on motorcycle and threw acid on her near the Church complex area of the city.

She was rushed to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) for treatment.

7. Bhiwandi Man Kills Woman for Refusing Sex, Held

The Shanti Nagar police in Bhiwandi on Saturday, 9 February, arrested a a 25-year old man for allegedly killing a woman for refusing to have sex with him. The victim was married with two children; a 25-day-old son and a one-and-half year old son, said the police.

Rajendra Mayne, police inspector (crime) of Shanti Nagar police said, “We initially questioned several people in the neighbourhood in connection with the crime. Several friends and relatives of the victim who used to frequent her home in the recent past were also interrogated."

8. Man Kills Pregnant Wife, Sleeps Beside Corpse Before Surrendering

A man allegedly killed his pregnant wife and slept beside the corpse through the night before alerting police in the morning in Maharashtra's Osmanabad district, an official said on Saturday, 9 February.

Omerga tehsil resident Vinod Dhansing Pawar had an argument with his wife Priyanka Rathod on Thursday, 7 February, night and strangled her, a Murum police station official said.

"He then slept beside the body and came to the police station on Friday morning, 8 February, to confess to his crime and surrender," the official informed.

9. 14-Year-Old Boy Stabbed to Death by Three Juveniles Over Friendship With Girl

A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death allegedly by three juveniles in central Delhi over his friendship with the girlfriend of one of the accused, police said Saturday, 9 February.

The three accused have been apprehended, they said.

When the boy was standing near his house on Friday night, 8 February, four boys called him to discuss some matter. However, the discussion led to a quarrel following which they allegedly stabbed him multiple times, a police official said.

As the victim screamed for help, the accused fled from the spot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by his mother where he succumbed to his injuries, a senior police officer said.
