1. Policeman Found Hanging at Home, Second Such Incident Within 12 Hours

A 40-year-old Delhi Police head constable allegedly hanged himself in his flat in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar.

This is the second case of a Delhi policeman allegedly killing himself within 12 hours. Earlier in the day, around 8 am, another head constable had allegedly shot himself dead with his service pistol in a police booth near a gate of Anand Vihar railway station. A preliminary enquiry into that death revealed he was suffering from depression.

The second incident was reported to the police at around 6:30 pm.

2. 70-Year-Old Held for Cheating Man of Rs 28,000 in Mumbai

A 70-year-old employment agent was arrested for allegedly cheating an air conditioning technician of Rs 28,000 under the pretext of securing a job for the latter in Oman.

According to police, the complainant, Ashishkumar Prasad (20), from Santacruz west, had responded to an advertisement he received through a text in June, stating that there were vacancies in Oman for air conditioning technicians.

Police said he spoke to the accused, Mohammad Hanif Khan, who claimed to be the proprietor of RK Enterprises.

3. Delhi Woman Set on Fire, 10-Year-Old Daughter Calls Cops

A 32-year-old woman was set on fire, allegedly by her in-laws, in South East Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Friday evening. A case has been registered against unknown persons under IPC Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 34 (act done by common intention).

“A 10-year-old girl called us and said her mother had suffered severe burn injuries after her uncle and paternal grandmother allegedly poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. We reached the spot and found the injured woman. She was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, and is critical, with 80% burn injuries. An FIR has been lodged,” said Chinmoy Biswal, DCP (South East). No arrests have been made yet.

As per the FIR, the incident took place when the woman, whose husband died five years ago, was at home with her mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

4. Body of Infant Girl Found Floating on Gujarat’s Deshalsar Lake

Body of a newborn girl was found floating on the Deshalsar Lake in Bhuj town on Sunday, 18 August.

Police said the body of the infant was found by Rafiq Bava, a resident of Camp Area of Bhuj town, while he was passing by the area around 1:30 pm on Sunday. Bava, who is associated with Manavjyot Trust, a Bhuj-based NGO, informed the police.

With the help of jawans of local fire brigade, the body was recovered and sent to GK General Hospital where the infant was declared brought dead.

Police said that prima facie, it was a case of a mother abandoning the newborn.

5. Woman Sexually Harassed, Blackmailed by Neighbour in Farrukhnagar

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly sexually harassed and blackmailed by her neighbour, who had been forcing her to marry him for the past four years, in Farrukhnagar, the police said on Sunday, 18 August. Police have registered an FIR against the man and some of his family members, and are investigating the case.

According to the police, the woman, a resident of Farrukhnagar, is a government employee. She alleged that the man, who is married and has a daughter, contacted her about four years ago. According to the FIR, in 2015, he allegedly clicked the woman’s pictures without her knowledge, while she was changing clothes at her house, and forced her into having physical relations with him. Later, the same year, he allegedly took her to an Arya Samaj temple in Delhi and forced her to pose for a picture and made her sign marriage documents.

6. 2 Nigerians Held for Kidnapping ‘Informer’ for Mumbai Police

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested by the Mumbai crime branch on Saturday, 17 August, for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting another 30-year-old Nigerian they suspected of working as a confidential informant (CI) for the Mumbai Police and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

The arrested accused have been identified as Nofar Samual Enoamons, 26, and Boateng Sunday Ghanajan, 28. The victim and the accused are residents of Kalina, Santacruz (East), and knew each other.

During the inquiry, police learned that Enoamons was a drug peddler who had been arrested in 2017 by the NCB. He allegedly suspected that the victim had informed the NCB of his involvement in drug peddling, which led to his arrest.

7. Man Arrested for Providing Fake Work Visas in Delhi: Police

A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing work visas, the police said on Sunday.

Santosh Bhagwan Behera, a resident of Mumbai, was arrested on 16 August by a team of IGI Airport Police Station of the Delhi Police.

On 30 January, a complaint was received regarding a passenger named Shamu, who was travelling to Poland from Delhi on a fake Polish visa. He was interrogated and arrested, the police said.

Shamu disclosed that one Ranjeet Kumar Mukherjee from Darbhanga, Bihar, had introduced him to two people – Behera and Raj Sharma – as agents who used to arrange visas for those wanting to work abroad.

8. 3 Arrested for Beating Madhya Pradesh Man over Charges of Theft: Cops

Three persons were arrested for allegedly beating a man over charges of theft and attempting to meet some women in the Dodiya Khadi village in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur, police said on Sunday.

"Police got information that a man named Bunty Singh Rajput was being beaten up by three people. We arrived on the spot and sent him to the hospital after rescuing him from the spot. Based on the victim's statement we registered a case and have succeeded in arresting all the three. We have registered the case under Sections 342, 323 and other relevant sections," police Inspector Ram Gopal Verma told news agency ANI.

Verma added that the man in his statement alleged the three persons started a quarrel with him without any provocation from his part and also accused him of being a thief.

9. Rajasthan: Wife Among 3 Arrested For Man's Murder, Says Police

Three people, including the wife of the man found dead at Odhania village in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer, were arrested in the case, police said Sunday, 18 August.

While the three were arrested on Saturday, the fourth accused was detained for interrogation on Sunday, police said.

On August 15, Khetaram was found dead in his fields and his wife had registered a murder case against some unidentified people, Lathi Station House Officer (SHO) Omprakash Chaudhary said.

During investigation, the man's wife came under suspicion and was interrogated, the SHO said.
