In News: Cong Workers Burn Swaraj-Lalit Modi Effigies in Kolkata
Congress workers have burnt Sushma Swaraj and Lalit modi effigies in Kolkata and sought Swaraj’s resignation.
Effigies of External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj and former Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner, Lalit Modi were burnt in Jadubazar area of Bhawanipore in Kolkata by Congress workers on Wednesday.
Youth Congress workers, demanding Swaraj’s resignation, were seen carrying placards and shouting slogans against the NDA government for helping the controversial former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi.
The row started when details of Sushma Swaraj helping Lalit Modi with travel documents to Portugal from the United Kingdom, where he is based currently, were released.
Opposition parties have sought an explanation for Swaraj’s actions from Prime Minster Modi.
The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has stood by Sushma Swaraj while the opposition, which includes Congress, called it ‘double standards’ of the ruling party.
The opposition parties want the Prime Minister to apologise for the controversy.
