Shiva's brother Mahendra drowned in Asmanpet lake in Hyderabad, having a huge impact on him and giving a direction to his life.
Shiva turned into a saviour at the age of 12 and now stays near tank Bund lake as a lifeguard, reported ANI.
Shiva said he also helps the police in recovering bodies from the water and has saved 107 lives by directly jumping into the water and bringing them out.
“Mahendra was the only one I had, the one whom I could call family. I don't want anyone else to go through the pain I once felt,” Shiva said, according to NDTV.
"Police approach me to recover the dead bodies from lakes. They had earlier promised to give me the home guard job but I have not received it yet," Shiva said, according to ANI.
‘Safety Gears Can Help Save More Lives’
Shiva said he can do better work and save more lives if the government provides him with safety gears.
Narrating an incident where he was injured saving a woman from drowning, Shiva said, a rod pierced into his chest and shoulder.
The police have nothing but praise for the lifeguard. “Shiva has always helped us in retrieving bodies from the lakes. No one has ever come forward to help us except him,” police officer Viswa Prasad told ANI.
The police officer also sought Director of Telangana Social Welfare Educational Institution Society Praveen Kumar’s help to admit Shiva's children in school.
The officer urged the government to step in and help Shiva, adding that they would approach the Hyderabad Collector to help him in any manner possible, reported ANI.
